Warrior Poets brought tears, joy and inspiration to the hundreds of people in Canterbury who saw it last year. It now returns to our theatre as part of the 2017 Wise Words Festival. Inspired by poetry written by local children in care and young refugees, Artistic Director Lemn Sissay, poets Joelle Taylor and Alex Vellis, artist Greg Stobbs, musician Richard Navarro and projection artists Butch Auntie have created a moving and immersive experience. In 2011 Jacob Dunne killed a man in an unprovoked attack. At this event Lemn Sissay will be talking to both Jacob Dunne and to Joan Scourfield, the mother of the man he killed. They will share with us how meeting through restorative justice has brought healing and helped both of them shape a better future. Celebrating finding happiness after tragedy, Good Grief blends comedy and storytelling to explore how we treat the bereaved. I m trying to understand why British women fall in love with men on death row. I m corresponding with Jonny, incarcerated in Texas. I m trying to understand how the death penalty fits into our world. I m trying not to be judgemental. Written and performed by the awardwinning Stephanie Ridings. Ridings captures the audience using a unique style that ll make you feel like you re at home watching a Netflix documentary. êêêê EDINBURGH FESTIVALS MAGAZINE Stuff SAT 10 JUN 6PM Another kind of love story, maybe everybody s love story. Stuff is playful, funny, sad and familiar. Lead clown for Cirque du Soleil, Sean Kempton, mixes comedy, mime, clowning and the odd bit of dance in this absurdist show about love The result is a highly energetic and entertaining, mainly non-verbal, physical piece that takes its audience on a journey through the fragility, hilarity and awkwardness of love. Adults, teenagers, children it is a show that everyone will enjoy! THE STAGE MOTORMOUSE PRODUCTIONS PRESENT God s Waiting Room WED 14 JUN 8PM An end of life comedy. Mother is dying slowly, the wait is unbearable, the pressures insurmountable, the thoughts unbelievable. Surely a gesture towards God s bigger plan is needed? Sisters, Stella and Connie may be different from one another but share a common and profound love for their Mother. Can things really continue as they are? If you re going to see one play about the end of life make it this one, as you will laugh far more than you will cry. ROSEMARY BRANCH THEATRE Finding Home THU 15 JUN 8PM Humour and moving storytelling, shining a light on loss. A coming-of-age story that maps the journey of a girl from a seaside town, to city life as a 20-something. Writer and performer Cecilia Knapp s debut piece is about a lot of things; growing up, Mothers, accidentally shaving off your eyebrows, drinking wine, love and one night stands. But it s mainly about losing her brother Leo to suicide and how that affects a person. Finding Home is an evocative collaboration of words, projections, vocals and instrumentals, both classical and contemporary. Featuring music by Bellatrix and Chris Redmond.

Voted the best poetry night in the UK by The Times, Bang Said The Gun has made poetry cool again. A rollercoaster of emotions, it s loud, raucous, political, trivial, serious and very funny. Normal rules do not apply here. Featuring a rich mix of the best and freshest talent, they will grab you by the collar and drag you into another world. You re an octopus. All mixed up, like me. One leg something, and one leg something else. Three women have been called in for assessment. Sara looks sort of Asian. Scheherazade sort of Middle Eastern. And Sarah is sort of white. But how British are they? Fresh from an acclaimed run at the Edinburgh Fringe, Octopus is a post-brexit satire that explores what it s like to be treated as a foreigner in your own land and the power of punk. This production brings to life the true story of the Canterbury Belles, Matilda and Amelia Hacker. But Bernard s perfect life goes haywire when a new and improved Boeing Jet is invented, speeding up air travel, and propelling all three women to him at once.
