2 ABOUT US Mission Pioneer Works is a cultural center dedicated to experimentation, education, and production across disciplines. Through a broad range of educational programs, performances, residencies, and exhibitions, Pioneer Works transcends disciplinary boundaries to foster a community where alternative modes of thought are activated and supported. We strive to make culture accessible to all. History Constructed in 1866 to house Pioneer Iron Works, the building was originally a factory for manufacturing large-scale industrial materials including railroad tracks and machinery for sugar plantations. The building was burned to the ground by a devastating fire in 1881, but was rebuilt shortly thereafter and remained in operation until the end of WWII. The factory was a landmark that ultimately gave Pioneer Street its name.in 2011, artist Dustin Yellin purchased the defunct facility and began a two-year renovation, which transformed the grand brick building into what it is today. Rentals Pioneer Works is a truly versatile space, making entertaining here as unique as the building itself. 3 First Floor Our grand and sunlit first floor, with direct access to the garden, is a dynamic series of spaces that are ideal for large-scale live events, weddings, and conferences. The first floor includes the Main Hall, North Hall, garden, prep kitchen, and bathrooms. 4 North Hall Located directly inside the Pioneer Works main entrance, the North Hall is an elegant and accommodating space for screenings, performances, talks, concerts, conferences, and dinners. The North Hall includes access to a prep kitchen and bathrooms. Garden access is available for an additional fee. 13 FAQ How long is a standard rental period? One day costs apply to an 8 am - 3 am rental period. What steps do I take to book an event at Pioneer Works? Please fill out a rental inquiry form on our website and reach out to our prefered vendors for initial quotes. If you are considering a wedding at Pioneer Works, we require that you work with a wedding planner. Please note that membership at any level is required to book events at Pioneer Works. How much will an event or a wedding at Pioneer Works cost? The rental fee in this agreement applies solely to the rental of the space. Any additional services (e.g., A/V, Maintenance) can be provided by our preferred vendors, or if provided inhouse, will be billed after the conclusion of the event. You should also consider the cost associated with procuring any necessary permits and hiring security. Can I place a hold on my preferred date? Yes. 50% of the rental fee and a security deposit are required to hold a date, both of which are nonrefundable. Can we use audiovisual equipment that belongs to Pioneer Works? Pioneer Works has a relationship with Pegasus Productions in addition to in-house equipment and in-house technicians that can be hired at an additional cost. How late can I play music? Amplified sound levels must be in accordance with New York City s noise guidelines. In most cases, amplified sounds must concludes outside at 11pm and inside by 12 am. Do we have to use your prefered caterers? No. We love our vendors, but you can work with other caterers providing they can provide a $2 million insurance liability policy naming Pioneer Works Art Foundation and Pioneer King LLC as additional insured. A copy of the Certificate of Insurance must be sent to Pioneer Works one week prior to the start of the rental. Is trash pick up included in the fee? Tenant is responsible for making sure that all garbage and recycling is bagged and properly placed in our dumpsters. If there is overflow, there will be a fee. Where can I park? There is no designated parking. Pioneer Works is a residential area and street parking is available. Check King Street and Imlay Street. Can I rent a private ferry? Yes. Hornblower Cruises & Events will charter cruises to and from your event. Are rentals tax deductible? No. If you are interested in making a tax deductible donation to Pioneer Works, please contact Maxine Petry (maxine@pioneerworks. org). Can I load in the day before and load out the day after? The rental period includes all clean up as well as loadin and load-out. If you are interested in renting an additional day for load-in or load-out please add that to your inquiry.
