(No flip flops or any attire that will not allow free range of movement or cause any limitations.) Snacks and Water: Bring water. Bring a quick snack to eat BEFORE 4pm. Remember, please no peanuts or anything made with peanuts. What to know ahead of time: Monologue: You must have a memorized monologue, that is from something from Jane Austin. It must run at least 1 minute, but not over 2 minutes. Bring a typed copy with you as you will need to hand a copy of the monologue to Mrs. Gilligan when entering the room. The monologue must not be from Pride and Prejudice. Audition Day - What to expect:

At 4:15 students come to 1816 (The Black Box) to sign in, and pick up your assigned number. Numbers: Please tape the number clearly to your shirt, in front. You may then sit in the hallway, away from your friends. You may warm up vocally and physically until quiet is called. Do not lose the number given to you. You are expected to wear it to every audition day! The Format: Several students may be auditioning together, and you may be called in to perform your dry read, with at least one other student, if not more. You may be asked to read for any role, but this does not reflect how you will be cast, it may just be a necessity. Please remember to relax and show us the best you can do! Audition Spaces: All auditions are closed auditions. Only the students auditioning and the judges are permitted. Please do not let friends wait in the hallway with you. Audition Behavior: Put away all cell phones, turn them off and do not have them on you. No talking in the hall when someone else is auditioning. Gum - just say no. Please remember, part of your audition is how you behave during the audition. If you are talking, disruptive, etc, it will reflect in your score. No student is permitted to stay after in the drama hallway past the audition time. Also, please remember to throw away all of your trash. If you are cast: PRIDE AND PREJUDICE Construction Days are mandatory for all cast and crew and please note - if you are in a sport, etc, that will interfere with any of the dates, please mention that to Ms. Gilligan at your audition. PRIDE AND PREJUDICE Strike: We stay until it is done. All cast and crewmembers MUST attend strike. Hair and Piercings: Once a student is cast they may not alter their appearance such as dying or cutting their hair (slit end trims are acceptable) getting new piercings, getting a tattoo that will be visible while in costume, without the Directors permission. So, what you look like at your audition, you will need to stay true to it, until the show is over.

Rehearsals: Please see Rehearsal Schedule, and return the signed form with your audition form. IMPORTANT NOTE: Please take the rehearsal schedule and your commitment to it seriously. Please do not schedule jobs or appointments during rehearsal AFTER you have accepted a role - attendance (or lack thereof) at rehearsals can affect casting at any time in the production period. Parent Responsibilities: If your child is cast, please note that one Parent/Legal Guardian from each student will be required to volunteer in any of the following areas. Help with selling concessions during one performance. Help with the Ticket booth during one performance. Help bring and serve food for our show late night rehearsals. Help with placing posters throughout the community. Help with Costumes. Help with selling flowers or Break-a-leg o-grams during one performance. Help with the stage strike on the evening of our Sunday performance. Help with the cast party. Help with advertising the show. Help with selling Program Ads. Help with picking up props or running to Home Depot if needed. Things along those lines... and hopefully one will fit nicely into your schedule. Please see Marilyn Gilligan with any questions. Activity Fee There is a $ Activity fee for all students who are cast in this School Wide RVHS Theatre production. The fee goes directly to help cover the cost of construction materials, props, the playbill and poster printing, the show licensing fee, as well as to help cover costume rental or purchasing, accessories, fabrics, and sewing materials. Your student will also receive from the Activity Fee the student s show T-Shirt! If your student is cast in this production, the Activity fee will be due on the first day of rehearsal. It is mandatory for all cast to come the entire first rehearsal. If your student cannot, please have them see Ms. Gilligan right away as allowances can be made with prior approval. Cash or check. Checks made out to RVHS Theater. (Please see Mrs. Gilligan if you need a fee waiver or extension following LCPS guidelines.) VHSL: As this is a VHSL activity, we will follow all VHSL rules

Last Note from the Director - Please relax and have fun at your audition! Take every moment to show us what you can do, how creative you can be, but never to the point of stressing so much you lose the reason we all are doing this to have a great high school experience! When roles are cast - never forget, theater is all about teamwork, so always treat your fellow actors and techies with respect and know that no role is more important than the other. From the lead role to the amazing student who hands out the programs, no production can successfully work without the other. And please remember, on all social media, RVHS Theatre is only positive and supportive of each other! On a personal note, if you are not cast, please do not let that stop you from pursuing theatre. Every audition will help you with auditioning skills, take it from me, so please try again for our next show! Thank you for auditioning!

Riverside High School Theatre Production Procedures and Fundamentals Cast Responsibilities Theatre is a physically exhausting art form. It requires complete concentration and great stamina. Eat three good meals a day Get as much sleep as possible. Good health is essential to good performance. Take care of your voice. (This means that you have to be attentive to how you are using it outside of rehearsal as well as during rehearsal.) If you feel vocal strain in rehearsal, tell the director immediately. This is in regard to plays as well as musicals. Try to get to rehearsals at least 10 minutes early. You will need the time to get ready physically, vocally, and psychologically to rehearse. Always allow yourself enough prep time for an adequate warm-up. You need to be physically keyed up, really alive and placed, responsive in senses and emotion, relaxed, concentrated, intelligently serious, and ready to attack a creative rehearsal. Production Fundamentals Script Keep your script with you all day and night during the rehearsal period. Put your script into a hard cover 3 ring stiff binder with your name on it. You must have your script in your binder by the first rehearsal date. All blocking and stage business should be marked in your script as it is given to you. Remember; write down all blocking and business. Always rehearse with a pencil. Take thorough notes on anything told to you by the director, assistant director, or stage manager concerning your performance. If you have questions about your character and his/her motivations, consult your notes BEFORE you approach the director. Learning Lines Lines and blocking should be memorized by the date specified on the rehearsal schedule.

When you drop a line on stage, simply hold your character position and characterization and say, "Line!" in character. The Assistant Director or Director should not feed you your line until you indicate that you need help remembering the line. Being "off book" means that you have memorized your lines and can proceed through a scene without the help of the script. After you are off book, be sure you have read through your part and have someone cue you through your role at least once a day. ALWAYS bring your script to rehearsal even after you have learned your lines. Attendance Personal appointments should be scheduled after rehearsal. Work is not an excuse for missing a rehearsal without prior permission. Rehearsals, crew calls, and tech rehearsals are NEVER to be missed without prior permission. The following people are the ONLY people that may excuse you from a call: the director, or Mrs. Gilligan if she is not directing. If you are excused from a call for any reason, go directly to the Assistant Director to inform them. Do not leave the premises without contacting either one directly. Punctuality All rehearsals and crew calls begin exactly on the time listed. A call of "places" means that all performers and crew involved in a particular scene must be ready to perform. They should be "in their places." It is best to arrive at the rehearsal location AT LEAST ten minutes prior to a call. It is mandatory that you are ready to work on time. Relationship to the Director Unless you are in a scene being worked on and have a pertinent question, never approach or speak to the director while she is working with, listening to, or watching a scene in progress. Never walk between the director and the playing area. NEVER Do not offer directorial suggestions during the rehearsal time. If you have an idea and would like to share that idea with the director, write it down and approach the director with your idea AFTER the rehearsal. Relationship to Other Company Members

Do not offer a suggestion, chastise, argue with, or prompt another actor under any circumstance. Never speak to or approach another actor who is waiting for an entrance. Do not talk backstage during rehearsal and/or performance unless it is mandatory and concerns the integrity of the production. Be ready for your entrance. This is your responsibility during rehearsals and performances. After rehearsal, clean up everything on the stage and in the drama/black box area even if it is not your mess. Relationship with the Crew and Equipment During a scene shift, an actor should completely clear off the stage space unless he is involved in the change or about to make an immediate entrance. At the same time, the crew must not distract the actors. Never touch a piece of lighting, sound, or stage equipment unless assigned to do so. Restricted areas include: the light and sound booth, the director's table, the director's office, costume and prop closets, and the mechanical room. At no time are you allowed to enter these areas without permission. Guests in the Theater Only people invited or approved by the director will be allowed to attend rehearsals. No unauthorized people are permitted backstage. Authorized people are those that are members of a production in progress that evening or those that have obtained permission by the director. No company member is allowed to receive guests in the Black Box or in the House, except after a rehearsal. Guests may not be in the Drama hall/black box/backstage etc, before, during, or after a performance. Rehearsal Costumes If a rehearsal costume is issued to you or you are asked to provide it, you will be expected to wear it every time you are called for rehearsal until it is replaced by your performance costume. No exceptions. You may be able to leave your rehearsal costume at the theatre. Rehearsal costume can be hung up on the costume rack. Practice skirts should be stored in your bag.

Wear appropriate clothing and shoes to rehearsal. Your clothing should not restrict your movement. No flip-flops. Wear shoes and clothing to rehearsal that will be similar to that which you will be wearing in the performance. Your arrival time should include time to put on your rehearsal / performance costume. This includes practice skirts and show shoes. If you need time to put a costume on, you should arrive early so that you may start rehearsal on time. Rehearsal Props The actor should be aware, at all times, when her/his hand is occupied with props. Add your own rehearsal props as soon as you are off book and your hands are free to use the props. Use these props every rehearsal until performance props are provided. If you cannot find a rehearsal prop, substitute one of your own devising rather than going onstage during rehearsal without one. Treat rehearsal props with as much care as you would performance props. Always keep rehearsal props on the prop table or in the prop closet when not in use. NEVER TOUCH A WEAPON unless assigned to do so. Performance Props Never touch a prop unless you are the character assigned to use that prop. Always return your props to their assigned spot in the on-stage prop closet as soon as you leave the acting area. Never sit on stage furniture back stage. Report broken props to the assistant stage manager and/or prop master immediately. Handling a Costume These rules exist because we care about how you look on stage and because we care about what happens to the costumes. Costumes have no life except the life the actor gives them. Find out how your costume relates to your performance. Costumes are not the actor's playthings. Onstage, they are only to be used as your CHARACTER would use them. Off-stage, however, they are to be handled with extreme care.

Skirts and capes are to be held so that they do not touch the floor and are hoisted in the rear so that they are not sat upon. Trains are carried until the very moment before an entrance. General Costume Reminders Your "look" is an important part of your costume and is not to be altered with prior permission. Performers may not alter their personal, everyday "look" without the prior permission from the director. Altering includes, but is not limited to: piercing or tattooing any part of their body and (depending on your look at the time when you were cast), as well as the cutting, shaving, or dyeing, of your hair. Please use soap, deodorant, and antiperspirant. Do not wear perfume or scented hairspray while in your costume. (Some people are allergic to these substances!) Give valuables to the stage manager, assistant director, or preferably, leave them at home. Do not leave valuables in the dressing areas. Have make-up on before putting your costume on. If your costume goes on over your head, ask someone on the costume crew to help you by putting a cloth over your head to protect your make-up and costume. Men, unless you are required to grow a beard for the production, be sure you shave before reporting for your make-up call. NEVER restyle wigs and/or hairpieces unless trained to do so. The costume crew should do this. When you are wearing your costume, do not eat or drink anything. Be careful where you sit; be careful what you lean on. Before entering the acting area, check yourself for any item that your character would not be wearing (i.e. watches, jewelry, wallets, etc.). Please do not touch anyone's costume. This will assist in preventing confusion and loss. Obtain your costume only from the crewmember in charge of checking out costumes, or from where you placed it the night before. Remove your make-up AFTER you have removed your costume.

You must check your costume in EVERY NIGHT. You will not be dismissed until you have checked out with the crew member in charge of checking out costumes. Please return costumes neatly hung on hangers or with your chair. Be sure to include all items that may be in use as part of your costume. Costumes left on the floor or backstage will be Please wait while the costume crew checks in items. If your costume needs repair or adjustment, tell the Assistant Director. Technical and Dress Rehearsal Procedures During the technical/dress rehearsal period, it will be necessary to have the complete cooperation of the entire production company. The director and Assistant Director will conduct the progression of these rehearsals/performances. She/he may cut from scene to scene (cue to cue), depending upon the needs of the designers, directors, and staff. Anyone may stop a rehearsal if she/he feel that she/he is being put into an unsafe position. Remain attentive and do not engage in unnecessary conversation. Do not talk backstage or if seated in the audience or waiting in the wings. At no time should you question the authority of the stage manager and crew hands. Even if you disagree with a procedure, comply with the directions given to you. The only exception to this is if you feel a situation is unsafe or if you feel your life is in danger. Actors must help the technicians by remaining in character and following the prescribed "timing" during these rehearsals. During the technical rehearsal, wear clothing that is close to the color of your performance costume. Do not wear WHITE or BLACK unless your character will be wearing white or black. Wear Jazz shoes for men, and Ballet Shoes for females, to all rehearsals from the Ballroom Dance lesson on.
