1 June B, 201,8 Dear Students we hope that you are enjoying the summer breakl As we prepare for another season of performances at Belmont, we want to make you aware of audition procedures for large ensembles for the upcoming year. Auditions are an important part of the educational process, and we expect that you will prepare the materials to the best of your ability. All students must participate in a minimum of one ensemble. Those receiving a scholarship will be assigned to [1) wind ensemble only, [2) concert band, or [3) wind ensemble and orchestra according to the scholarship agreement. Auditions for wind Ensemble, concert Band*, and Symphony orchestra will take place on Monday, August 20 and Tuesday, August zl in McAfee concert Hall. All woodwind, brass, and percussion majors and minors must audition for placement; however, students from all majors are welcome and encouraged to participate in the audition process, students must be willing to perform in ensembles as assigned, and, following the auditions, some schedule changes may be necessary. Auditions will be heard during the following times: Monday, August 20 2:30 PM Flute 3:30 PM Oboe 4:00 PM Bassoon 4:4 PM Clarinet/Bass Clarinet :00 PM Saxophone Tuesday, August 21 B:00 AM Percussion 10:00 AM Trombone L0:4 AM Euphonium/Tuba LL:1 PM Horn L2:00 PM Break 1:00 PM Trumpet Each audition wiìl last approximately five minutes and will be heard by ensemble faculty and applied faculty as available. n order to provide a fair and efficient placement, auditions will be blind and based upon the performance of the musical excerpts alone, Please plan to be present during the scheduled time for your instrument, When you arrive, check in at the desk outside the door, and you will be assigned a number. when it is your turn, simply enter the room and play the excerpts as you have prepared them in order. No communication will take place between the panel and the student. f you have a conflict with one of the scheduled times, please notify Dr. Kraus (barry,kraus@belmont.edu) so that you may be included during one of the other instrument time slots.

2 *Concert Band enrollment is open to all students on campus. Music majors must participate in the audition process above. Non-music majors who wish to play only in Concert Band are not required to play a formal audition and do not need to download and prepare the excerpts. Please contact Dr, Kraus [barry.kraus(ôbelrnont.ecllr) to indicate your interest in Concert Band, and you may register when you see your advisor. Following auditions, all students should follow these guidelines. Classical wind and percussion majors should register for Wind Ensemble [MUN 4900) or Concert Band MUN 430) as their ensemble for credit. All additional ensembles must be added under MUN 489 [zero credit) in the appropriate section. Non-music and minors majors may register for the ensemble in which they are placed.
