1 g{x V{tÜÄÉààx XÇV{tÅtwx V{tÜÄÉààx V{tÑàxÜ AMERICAN GUILD OF ORGANISTS YÜÉÅ à{x Wxá~ Éy à{x WxtÇAAA f pring has sprung! Can you believe it? I looked around the other day, and the trees were blooming. I couldn t believe it. Where did January and February, and our WINTER go? We are into the season of renewal. The earth is renewing itself, and we can renew ourselves as well. Your board has been thinking about renewal in the past two months. As we renew our leadership through nominations and elections, you have the chance to help with renewal. You should have received an with the candidates and their information. We have a wonderful slate of possibilities. Matthew Michael Brown, Patrick Pope and Jane Cain have all proven themselves to be wonderful musicians and leaders in our field. Of course, you can also take on writing in your own nominations. This is what makes the democratic process exciting! Please consider your slate, and when your ballot comes to you in the mail, take the time to vote. It is important that you register your thoughts in this process. APRIL 2012 Adam Ward, dean The renewal doesn t start there. There was great discussion at our last board meeting about being proactive to invite our choirs, our friends and our colleagues to be a part of what we do. Our programs are generally open to all. Consider inviting your choir, your fellow-musicians or clergy to attend a summer recital with you. Or invite them to a monthly program. Better yet, advertise AGO programs in your church or choir newsletter or blasts. In this way, we educate and inspire even those who don t consider themselves to be musicians. This is renewal, and the spring is great time to make it happen! So, vote, invite, advertise, be present and be counted! You ll find yourself learning, getting inspiration and being a better musician for it! Adam Ward The purpose of the American Guild of Organists is to promote the organ in its historic and evolving roles, to encourage excellence in the performance of organ and choral music, and to provide a forum for mutual support, inspiration, education, and certification of Guild members.
