To continue the student s instruction of the correct piano skills needed to perform accurately as well as musically. 2. To develop a larger working musical vocabulary with the ability to articulate and respond with appropriate music vocabulary. 3. To respond to, analyze and make informed, critical assessments of the quality and effectiveness of their own performances as well as the performances of other through written and oral responses. 4. To be able to compare and contrast the differences in the musical style of the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Twentieth Century Periods. 5. To become familiar with the composers of piano literature from the musical periods of the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Twentieth Century. 6. To develop an appreciation for the piano and its vast repertoire and have a desire to continue this musical experience throughout their lives.

3 Written Assignments: All students will research and write a brief biography of a major composer each quarter consisting of a minimum of 5 paragraphs. The students will be provided with a list of composers that they may choose from. The list represents each musical time period: Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Twentieth Century. The students must choose a composer from a different time period each quarter. This will insure that by the end of the year, the students have had an opportunity to research and write about all of the musical time periods. Each biography must use a book, reference, (Encyclopedia, et al.) and Internet source as part of their bibliography. The main focus of the biography must emphasize the composer s contribution to the body of piano literature. A list of ten piano works by the composer must be included in the biography.
