1 Announcement 2013 The Renata Tebaldi Foundation announces the 5 th Renata Tebaldi International Voice Competition open to singers of all nationalities (except the winners of the previous editions of this Competition: first, second and third prize). Under the artistic management of Angelo Nicastro, the Competition will take place in the Republic of San Marino from 19 th to 28 th September 2013 and it will be divided in two sections:. Ancient and Baroque Repertoire - from 1600 to Mozart. Opera - from Mozart to all the 20 th century Candidates shall submit their registration on-line not later than 30 th April 2013 on by filling in the suitable form and attaching the materials specified in each section. s can be submitted from 31 st January The candidates will be selected by listening to a video recording including a performance of 15 minutes as a maximum to be sent according to and within the terms specified below. Candidates will receive the result of pre-selections by by 15 th June The candidates admitted to the Competition shall confirm their participation not later than 20 th July Admitted candidates shall be available for any event for the entire period of the Competition. On July 31 st, before a notary, a letter of the alphabet will be drawn. Such letter will determine the alphabet order according to which the candidates admitted will perform. Such order will be abided by during all the phases of the Competition. Accommodation B&B accommodation expenses will be borne by the Renata Tebaldi Foundation for the candidates admitted to the Competition for the period of their permanence in the Competition. Any extra cost will be borne by the candidates themselves. Conditions By registering on the Competition candidates accept these regulations and grant the Renata Tebaldi Foundation the right to use all Competition recordings and broadcasting with nothing being due to them. The application form has legal value and in the event of any dispute, the binding document will be the announcement in Italian. 2 1 / 2 From 1600 to Mozart The 5 th Renata Tebaldi International Voice Competition, Ancient and Baroque Repertoire section, will take place from 19 th to 22 nd September Contraltos, mezzo-sopranos, baritones and basses can apply if born between 20 th September 1983 and 20 th September Sopranos, tenors, and countertenors can apply if born between 20 th September 1985 and 20 th September Candidates shall submit their registration on-line on the website not later than 30 th April s can be submitted from 31 st January A maximum number of 30 candidates will be admitted and they will be selected by listening to an audio/video recording including a performance of 15 minutes as a maximum to be sent according to and within the terms specified below. To gain access to pre-selections, candidates shall fill in an online registration form and include the following material: 1. A scanned document certifying identity and nationality (.pdf or.jpg format) 2. One recent digital photo (.jpg format) 3. A short CV (in Italian or in English) including details about education, any award obtained in previous competitions and any professional activity carried out (.doc,.docx or.txt format) 4. An audio/video recording including the performance of two arias: an aria di coloratura and an aria cantabile from the Ancient, Baroque or Oratorio repertoire for a maximum duration of 15 minutes. Features of the recordings: - the audio/video recordings shall be of good technical quality - the description of the video shall detail the following information: recording date, piece complete title, opera and author, duration - each piece can be recorded on separate tracks. The maximum duration of the two tracks altogether shall not be more than 15 minutes (see on how to submit your registration: upload of your file on Youtube or delivery by post/courier of a DVD). 5. Scanned receipt of the payment of Euro as Competition application fee (.pdf or.jpg format) in case of payment by bank transfer of postal order. Transaction expenses are to be paid by the candidate. The application fee for the section Ancient and Baroque Repertoire is reduced to Euro for the candidates participating also in the section Opera. 3 2 / 2 From 1600 to Mozart Programme All admitted candidates shall present 6 pieces from the voice repertoire of the 17 th - 18 th century repertoire (Opera, Concert, or Oratory arias). At least one of them shall be an aria di coloratura. Participants are allowed to include two arias as a maximum (out of the six presented) from the classic repertoire. All performances shall be by heart. The use of scores is permitted for Oratory pieces. The Renata Tebaldi Foundation will provide all candidates with official accompanying harpsichordist. However, candidates may, if they so wish, have their own harpsichordist for whom they shall bear all and every expenses. Each candidate shall take compulsory rehearsing on 19 th September 2013 with a harpsichordist chosen by the secretarial office of the Competition. Such rehearsing is not compulsory for the singers accompanied by their own harpsichordist. Preliminary stage: Teatro Titano, 20 th September 2013 Each candidate shall perform one aria of his/her own choice and one chosen by the Jury from the candidates programme, with harpsichord or piano accompaniment. Semi - final stage: Teatro Titano, 21 st September 2013 A maximum of 12 candidates will be admitted. Each candidate shall perform two arias with harpsichord or piano accompaniment chosen by the Jury from the candidate s programme among those not performed in the preliminary stage. Final Concert: Teatro Titano, 22 nd September 2013 A maximum of 6 candidates will be admitted. Each candidate shall perform an aria chosen by the Jury among those included in the programme proposed. The Concert will be open to the audience and accompanied by the Baroque Orchestra of the Conservatory Bruno Maderna of Cesena. In the preliminary and semi-final stages two tuned instruments, one at 415Hz and the other at 440Hz, will be available. In the final stage with the Orchestra the performance will be with diapason at 415Hz. Admitted candidates shall bring themselves all the voice/piano scores of the pieces included in their programme. Prizes. First prize 5,000.00* * Besides the cash prize the President of the Jury will offer a contract/agreement. Second prize 3,000.00*. Third prize 1,500.00* Jury The President of the Jury of the 5 th edition of the Renata Tebaldi International Voice Competition - Ancient And Baroque Repertoire section will be Didier de Cottignies. The first prize winner will be offered a contract/agreement by the President of the Jury. The Jury avails itself the right not to award the first prize. In any case, the vote of the President will be binding for the awarding of the first prize. In the event a candidate has been a pupil of a member of the Jury in the last three years, such member shall not evaluate him/her. The vote of the Jury will be incontestable and final.

5 From Mozart to the whole 20th century 2/2 Programme All admitted candidates shall present six opera arias from the opera repertoire from W.A. Mozart to the whole 20th century to be sung in their original language and complete with recitativo and/or cabaletta if present. The six arias shall be in at least three different languages and at least two of them in Italian. All performances shall be by heart. Admitted candidates shall bring themselves all the voice/piano scores of the pieces included in their programme. The Renata Tebaldi Foundation will provide all candidates with official accompanying pianist. However, candidates may, if they so wish, have their own pianist for whom they shall bear all and every expenses. Each candidate shall take compulsory rehearsing on 23rd September 2013 with a pianist chosen by the secretarial office of the Competition. Such rehearsing is not compulsory for the singers accompanied by their own pianist. Preliminary stage: Teatro Titano, 24th - 25th September 2013 Each candidate shall perform one aria of his/her own choice and one chosen by the Jury from the candidates programme, with piano accompaniment. Prizes ,000.00*. First prize * Besides the cash prize the President of the Jury will offer a contract/agreement 6,000.00*. Second prize 4,000.00*. Third prize Jury The President of the Jury of the 5th edition of the Renata Tebaldi International Voice Competition - Opera section will be Gerard Mortier, present manager of the Teatro Real of Madrid. The first prize winner will be offered a contract/agreement by the President of the Jury. The Jury avails itself the right not to award the first prize. In any case, the vote of the President will be binding for the awarding of the first prize. In the event a candidate has been a pupil of a member of the Jury in the last three years, such member shall not evaluate him/her. The vote of the Jury will be incontestable and final. Final Concert: Teatro Nuovo, 28th September 2013 A maximum of 10 candidates will be admitted. Each candidate shall perform an aria chosen by the Jury among those included in the programme proposed.
