4 Contemporary published report In 1800, Vienna had two opera houses, and no (public) concert hall The (Italian opera) orchestra has no lack of estimable players Herr Conti, the director, is obviously unequal to his task. The German opera falls short of expectations Its orchestra has far fewer worthy subjects (but) often have far better performances, to the credit of its worthy director.
