5 Calling all Elementary School students who love to sing! Voices of Cushman meets once a week under the direction of Mrs. Lisa Herbert and Ms. Alexandra Levin. Voices of Cushman performs at assemblies and community events such as Harvest Howl, Unity Day, Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Center, The Cushman Picnic and the Heat Game. We are looking for students who love to sing and share our school with the community! *Students will be asked to purchase a Voices polo shirt from the on-line school store. **Please note that this group runs year round and does not follow the club schedule. This popular drumming group allows young students the opportunity to experiment on percussion instruments as they learn about various drums and drumming techniques. We encourage students to work together to create exciting music and to HAVE FUN!! **Please note that this group runs year round and does not follow the club schedule. 9 Percussion Fun (New) (Primary School- second semester only!) Welcome to the wonderful world of xylophones, metallophones and glockenspiels and percussion. This new after-school group will allow your child the opportunity to create and explore on these wonderful instruments while making beautiful music and having fun! **Please note that this group runs year round and does not follow the club schedule. 10 Percussion Ensemble (Elementary School) Percussion Ensemble incorporates a wide variety of percussion instruments including drums, xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels and bells. This ensemble will work together creating new and beautiful music that will be showcased at the Elementary School assemblies and other school functions. (No previous experience in drumming necessary.) **Please note that this group runs year round and does not follow the club schedule. 11 Guitar Group (Primary and Elementary) We are excited to once again offer guitar classes at The Cushman School Nick Tannura graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in jazz guitar performance. Nick has a wealth of teaching experience with students of all ages and will be offering group classes. (Private instruction will also be available.) 12 Violin Group Classes (Primary and Elementary) Miss Ho is a graduate of the University of Miami s Frost School of Music and has been teaching privately since In this ensemble, students will learn basic technique, music theory, and how to play some of their favorite songs on the violin. Miss Ho will be happy to help students rent or purchase instruments and supplies. 13 Flamenco (For ages 3 and up) Flamenco is a beautiful dance form that blends movement and expressions from a variety of ancient cultures. Flamenco classes teach the fundamentals of this wonderful art while developing a sense of rhythm, stimulating concentration and strengthening motor skills, all in a safe, fun and colorful environment. During the early stages, the program will focus on building posture, learning sequences of footwork with body and arm movements and producing different percussive sounds by using hands and feet, all while learning multiple choreographies such as Rumba Flamenca. Classes will be set up according to grade level and skill sets. 14 Private Drum Lessons (All ages and abilities) Seth Woods is a recent graduate of the Studio Music and Jazz Studies program in the Frost School of Music at The University of Miami. He has been teaching the modern drum set to all ages and levels for the past 8 years. Seth s lessons are tailored to the specific needs and wants of each individual student while addressing the concepts and techniques needed for a solid foundation. Along with learning to play their favorite songs, the student will have weekly assignments that will provide the foundation needed to accomplish his or her musical goals. 15 Private Piano Lessons Private piano lessons with JC Smith: A graduate of the University of Miami's Frost School of Music, Mr. Smith has teaching at The Cushman School for the past 5 years. Each private lesson will focus on developing your child into a true musician. Just as important as learning how to play or sing a song is learning how the notes, rhythms and everything else on the printed page work to create a musical score! Students have weekly practice and theory homework so they can achieve their musical goals outside of the lesson space. The approach to musical discovery includes a variety of musical styles, from Classical to Jazz, adding in fun-filled theory work that has students working hard just to see what's on the next page! Mr. Hamilton has been teaching music at different high schools in Jamaica and Miami for the last 16 years, and plays the piano, drums and flute. He was a piano teacher with the Miami Conservatory of Music and has been serving as the music director for the Miami Theater Center summer camp program for the past three years. He will be accepting students at the beginner through intermediate levels. Students will have weekly assignments that will help to provide the foundation needed to accomplish his or her musical goals. 18 Private Violin Lessons Private violin lessons are taught by Miss Belinda Ho. She is an alumna of the University of Miami s Frost School of Music and has been teaching privately since These private violin lessons are designed to address your student's specific needs in improving skills and discovering his or her musical interests.
