2 Together or string orchestra ames M Stehenson Commissioned by Alause, Lake orest High School Music Patrons, or the LHS Symhony strings; Robert Bassill, director This is my second time having been engaged by the Robert Bassill, director o the LHS string orchestra, and Alause, to comose a new work or their student orchestra I am deely grateul to them or their suort o a local comoser, and or their commitment to exosing the students to living comosers or this work, Together, I wanted to write something where the sum o the arts equals a whole To me, this is what it means to lay in an ensemble o any sort, or to lay a team sort, or to be in a club, in a drama/ilm roduction, on a tech crew, or on a debate team, etc These are all examles o activities that are available in high school (and moving orward, in lie), and I think an imortant reminder or us all Thereore, Together begins with each section taking their turn laying a hrase in unison - together - where even though they are all laying the same notes, it takes a team eort to make it sound as one Each section gets a hrase, and then they have to hand it o to the next Ater this oening section, a rhythmical, ubeat, and tuneul section emerges, where each section -- each layer -- is held resonsible, or uholding their integral roles Whether it be a melody, imortant rhythmical ulsing, or a bass line, the success o the team cannot haen without the racticed and executed contribution o each layer The oening hrases eventually return (at letter H), but now they are all layed simultaneously, roving once again that when all sections erorm their arts together, the entire team (or comany) can succeed The utemo section return, and brings Together to a rousing inish Thank you, again, to Robert Bassill, and to Alause and Lake orest High School, or having me comose this work It is a oy to work with you and your students im Stehenson; uly 8, 2018 Comoserimcom 2018, by Stehenson Music, Inc All rights reserved Dulication by any means without consent is strictly rohibited COMPOSERIMCOM
