1 January 2016 First ever Iowa Lakes Bond Referendum Proposal (Bond designed for critical improvements at all five campuses) Iowa Lakes Community College is celebrating 50 years of service to the community. As a key economic development factor, Iowa Lakes provides educational opportunities to students as well as preparation and training for our local business and industry partners. The college administration and board are asking constituents whether or not to approve an upcoming bond referendum which would provide critical improvements that will support educational programming at all five campuses. As an educational institution, it is our responsibility to be a leader in energy efficiency, planning and programming. Each of the 5 campuses will benefit from the bond referendum. In Estherville, the proposed project involves an addition to house musicals, plays, competitions, talent shows, concerts, camps, lectures and meetings. Also additional classrooms for the digital, social and broadcast productions program will be created. In Emmetsburg, the proposed project involves a student services one-stop addition which coordinates services needed by incoming students. In Algona, the proposed project involves a small business/entrepreneurial center. In Spencer, the proposed project involves a new roof and exterior improvements. In Spirit Lake, the proposed project involves renovation to provide space for technical and industrial education. Also building security will be enhanced at all campuses by adding computerized, keyless entries. The total bond referendum is $16,000,000. (The difference between the bond referendum and the project costs will be covered by the college s facility funds.) A full listing can be found at bond. Individuals may vote now at their County Auditor s office. Voting will occur on Tuesday, February 2 nd at your regular polling locations. Projects will be bid in accordance with Iowa Code. Iowa Lakes will only levy for the funding needed for these projects. Special Election is February 2, 2016 Auditions for Spring Musical at Iowa Lakes Community College Join us as the Iowa Lakes Community College music students and area community members perform the timeless story of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (MegaMix Edition). Its family-friendly storyline, universal themes and catchy music provide the most entertaining couple of hours one can spend on stage or in the audience! Auditions will be held on Sunday, January 24 at the following times: 2 p.m. for children (grades 3-8), 3 p.m. for women (high school and older), and at 4 p.m. for men (high school and older). An additional day for auditions will be held Tuesday, January 26 at the following times: 6 p.m. for children (grades 3-8), 7 p.m. for women (high school and older), and 8 p.m. for men (high school and older). Individuals only need to attend one audition. All auditions will be held in room 74 on the Estherville campus. (continued on next page)

2 JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT (MegaMix Edition) cont. Auditions are private. Participants should come prepared to sing one minute of any song. It could be from any Broadway show, or pop, folk, or country song if preferred. An up-tempo song choice is recommended rather than a ballad. Please bring your accompaniment, whether it is a CD, an mp3 or sheet music for a provided accompanist. We need a large cast with at least 20 men, 20 women, an unlimited number chorus members, plus an additional children s choir. said Carol Ayres, Professor of Music. This Biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors will come to life in this delightful musical parable. Joseph, his father s favorite son, is a boy blessed with prophetic dreams. When he is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers and taken to Egypt, Joseph endures a series of adventures in which his spirit and humanity are continually challenged. Set to an amazing variety of styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock n roll, this Old Testament tale emerges both timely and timeless. It is set to a variety of musical styles, with lyrics written by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, and features extended songs and dances from countrywestern and calypso to bubble-gum pop, and rock n roll. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is presented through special arrangement with R&H Theatricals. All authorized performance materials are also supplied by R&H Theatricals 229 West 28th Street, New York, NY 10001, Phone: SINGING VALENTINES! Say I love you with a Singing Valentine, and leave your sweetheart speechless! On Friday February 12, the Iowa Lakes Men s Quartet will deliver Singing Valentines for area residents and business people looking for a fun and exciting way to send a Valentine message to their sweethearts, family members, friends, employees, or customers. The singers can serenade them at home, at work, in a restaurant, or anywhere else you choose. Wherever they appear, they ll draw a crowd and sometimes a few tears. A Singing Valentine costs $25 and includes two songs sung by the quartet (dressed in their best tuxedos!), a personalized Valentine s card, a rose, and a commemorative photograph, so you can always remember the occasion. Men and women alike are on the receiving end with moving results. To order a Singing Valentine, contact Brett Fuelberth, Vocal Music Professor, at or bfuelberth@iowalakes.edu.
