5 COMMUNICATION You can always the band directors. We have a goal to reply to those s within 24 hours. All handouts given to the students will also be distributed via and posted on Edmodo. Students and Parents should sign up for Remind. This is a free text messaging service so the band directors can remind students of upcoming events and mass communicate with parents via text messaging.

7 BAND WEBSITE Our band website has every important document that you and your students need for this year. When performances are upcoming, information will be posted on this website in addition to student flyers. You can access the website from the Bettye Myers MS main page by clicking Activities, then Band.

9 PRACTICE Students who practice consistently and correctly will be successful in band. Contrary to the popular saying, practice does not make perfect. Practice makes permanent. A typical practice session lasts minutes for a 6 th grader and minutes for a 7 th /8 th grader

10 POP AND PLAYS Pop and Play assessments are how students will be evaluated for practicing These are short pop playing quizzes given at random Students who practice the music assigned will have no problem with the pop and plays. They are meant to encourage practice and preparation.

12 EDMODO All assignments this year will be turned in via Edmodo. Objectives may also be submitted for approval via Edmodo as long as they are not memorized. Recordings, help videos, instruction sheets, handouts, and music copies will be posted on the Edmodo band pages. Parents may also join the Edmodo pages to keep up with your student s assignments.

14 CONCERT LISTENING OPPORTUNITIES We will offer the opportunity to attend at least one high quality band concert a semester University of North Texas Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band Concerts on November 20 th and April 30 th We will get the tickets from UNT for free, we only ask that students who plan on attending pay for our buses. If many students attend, that fee will be very small.

15 SECTION REHEARSALS (WIND ENSEMBLE ONLY) Section Rehearsals are designed to meet the specific needs of each instrument and are an essential part of the 7 th and 8 th grade curriculum. Every attempt is made to avoid conflicts with school athletic practices and other schoolsponsored activities. Section Rehearsals begin on the week of September 8 th. A schedule is available at this meeting and on the band website.

18 FUNDRAISING Titan Band Practice-A-Thon Fundraiser will begin on Tuesday, September 15 th An additional fundraiser from Express Industries will begin on November 7 th You may choose to opt-out of the fundraiser by making a donation of $50 or more to the Myers Band Please make donation checks payable to Myers Middle School with your child s name in the memo line.

19 MUSIC STORE You may order instrument supplies through the band directors if you are still in need of an instrument or supplies. We will send your order on the Music & Arts to ensure that you do not need to go to the store. It might take a week or more to fulfill the order however. 20 PRIVATE LESSONS Individual Study with a professional musician. Offered weekly during band class as well as before and after school. $18 per 30 minute lesson. Lessons are a vital part of a band program s overall success. Private teachers are here for you to meet and sign up with your student.
