1 River Ridge Taik Student Cntract S, we are frmalizing things even mre this year. Expansin ver the last tw t three years, bth in scpe f the membership f the grup and in the perfrmances that the grup des, has mved the grup frm a small cllectin f very dedicated peple t a much larger rganizatin that needs sme grund rules and guidelines s that we are all n the same page. Last year, we frmalized expectatins as fllws: Rehearsal Time: We nly get t rehearse nce per week. This is an all-vlunteer grup and peple missing rehearsals withut prir cntact, cnsistently being late t rehearsals, disrupting rehearsals, etc. causes a lt f frustratin fr thers wh are giving up their time t be there and get the grup ready fr perfrmances. Guidelines fr Parents: Please understand that rehearsal time needs t be treated like class time. We had multiple incidents f kids using phnes in the past t text peple and saying that it was their parent and if they didn t answer right away, they wuld be in truble. In ther wrds, they were saying that it was an expectatin n the parent s part that rehearsal can be interrupted fr any reasn. Rehearsals will g frm 4-5 PM r 5:30 6:30 PM depending n which grup yur student is in with a grup meeting frm 5 5:30 PM. Please d nt plan n cntacting yur student and getting a respnse during rehearsal time. Guidelines fr Students: The fllwing things/behavirs shuld nt happen in rehearsal: Electrnics...persnal music devices, phnes, etc. Just think Off, ff, and away like during class at schl. We have a phne bx fr thse f yu wh have truble leaving yur phne ff it can live in the bx, turned ff, during ur rehearsals if yu can t handle nt using it fr an hur. Fd this is a big n. Eat arund ur rehearsal time, nt during. Leaving early stay and help put stuff away if we end with time t clean up if we end at 5:25, yu we 5 minutes f cleanup at least, dn t just leave early. Be n time enugh said if we wait 20 minutes fr enugh peple t be here t rehearse, we have wasted a third f ur rehearsal time. Perfrmances: It is expected that students shw up t help lad the equipment and help unlad it after we get back frm perfrmances. We have had a fair number f perfrmances after which a lt f peple disappeared withut helping unlad anything at all. Parents need t understand that the trip is nt ver until the equipment is unladed. Sme students were citing their parents demands that they leave nw as reasn fr aviding the unpleasant task f unlading. Emergencies are exempt, but it is hard t

2 nt questin what is ging n when peple cnsistently have parents wh demand that they leave when we start unlading. At perfrmances, it is smetimes necessary t let students d the wrk, even if yu can d it better. Fr sme f the students, the jb they are ding is practically the nly jb they can d because f medical limitatins let them d it. Students wh have a medical cnditin that limits the amunt f weight they can carry shuld make sure that Mr. Theine is aware f their limitatins (in writing frm a parent please). There is smaller, lighter equipment as well as sme nn-carrying duties (blting r unblting equipment, small drums, light stands, etc. Thse wh are mre capable f lifting the heavier equipment shuld fcus n that first and nt just g fr the easy lift. Parents helping ut at events and students need t be aware that smene may have a bad shulder r back and be limited in lifting weight. D nt hld it against a student if they are nt lifting heavy equipment, even if they seem capable. Let Mr. Theine knw yur cncerns and if he desn t have medical infrmatin, he can deal with the student. Everyne...team-lifting heavy items is a must. Spare yur back and team-lift the larger drums (Odaik and up) as well as the big pieces f stands (big bertha & papa kim). Als watch what yu say abut ther peple, perfrmers, etc. Parents helping ut represent the schl and the grup as much as the student perfrmers d and what yu say and hw yu say it (bth parents and students) reflects n the grup. S be nice, use gd language, act apprpriately, and represent the grup/schl well. Perfrmance-wear: Everyne is expected t have the fllwing fr perfrmances: Black shes (marching shes see Mr. Theine if yu need them) Black scks Black slacks (cttn/plyester ) Taik shirt (we will rder in Octber $5-$10 per shirt if yu give me a size depending n the number rdered.) Summer Taik (fr thse wh chse t d this) Nn-descript black sandals Plain black shrts (mid-thigh t knee-length) We will size peple fr hapi cats and assign a size fr yu t have during perfrmances. Calendar f knwn perfrmances/critical dates: 9/21/14: Olympia s 5 th annual Internatinal Day f Peace (summer flks nly) 12/6/14: Hawk Hliday Happening, afternn, weather permitting utside the building. 12/16/14: Pre-cncert perfrmance while the band/rchestra cncert crwd finds seats. Be at schl by 6 PM, perfrm by 6:40 r s, help mve stuff back after the cncert. 1/17/15?: Oshgatsu, dwntwn Olympia Date nt verified but likely time TBD, but likely mrning r early afternn.

3 3/8/15: City f Lacey Ethnic Festival, SMU all-day event, perfrmance time TBD, petting z as well fr thse willing t stay fr that. Unlad in the late afternn/early evening. 3/24/15: Pre-cncert perfrmance while the NMS/RRHS band cncert crwd finds seats. Be at schl by 6 PM, perfrm by 6:40 r s, perfrmance during the cncert with the Wind Ensemble in a new cncert piece, help mve stuff back after the cncert. 4/25/15: SMU Dragn Bat Festival pssible perfrmance in the mrning, dwntwn Olympia. 5/9/15: Cl Rides Car Shw, Huntamer Park, mid-day perfrmance. 5/16/15: Lacey Spring Fun Fair mrning perfrmance at SMU. 5/26/15: Perfrmance during the cncert, be here by 6 PM, help mve stuff back afterwards. 6/6/15: Duck Dash perfrmance at 4 PM. 6/13/15: Ocean Shres Flag Day? all day trip, here early, back by 6ish PM nt verified. Summer Taik after that TBD if yu sign up fr it. Other perfrmances will pp up during the schl year. We will cmmit t thse n a case-by-case basis. If yu cmmit t a perfrmance, yu need t be there. We will make every effrt t be at rehearsals n a weekly basis r let Mr. Theine knw f absences in a timely and apprpriate manner (in writing, at least a day ahead unless there s an emergency). We will make every effrt t fully participate in the given calendar (spring trip fr thse in the spring trip grup nly) and help with lading/unlading at the schl. Absences will be cmmunicated t Mr. Theine in a timely and apprpriate manner (in writing at least tw weeks ahead f time unless there s an emergency) We will make sure that all needed cncert wear is taken care f befre the first calendar perfrmance.
