Tuesday, January 22, 2019 The Graduate Opera Project: C.W. Gluck s ORFEO ED EURYDICE Stage Director: Gerald Dolter Orpheus and Euridice is the first of Gluck s reform operas, in which the composer, in collaboration with his poet, aims at a noble simplicity, avoiding what he described as an excuse of excessive ornamentation and vocal vanity. The graduate vocal students of the School of Music bring this epic story to life with the early instruments and vocal melodic treatments that were prevalent in the late 18 th century.
