Course objectives (as resulting from the matrix of specific competences) 7.1 Course goals 1) Specialized knowledge in the studied field: - Assimilating and thoroughly studying the means of choral conducting using derived beating; - Phases in studying musical scores; - acquiring means of conducting expression; - studying and learning choral scores from a conductor s perspective; - principles of organizing choral ensembles 2) Specialized, instrumental-practical, creative abilities - Developing conducting approaches, depending on the style, age and nature of a composer s work; - Conducting musical pieces from the syllabus using derived beating schemes. - the techniques of conducting choral ensembles; - developing proper conducting approaches, suitable to the style, age and nature of the composer s work; - A conductor s analysis of musical scores ; - Conducting syllabus works in fundamental tact schemes. 3) Behaviors similar to those of an ethical pedagogue-interpreter-composer musician - Exercising musical skills as means of nurturing artistic communication between the members of the musical ensemble (instrumentalists, choir singers), the composer and the audience (musicians and laity) - phrasing, nuances, addressing types, voice inputs, arm

3 interdependence. 7.2 Course objectives This course helps its students develop their own conducting abilities, supporting them in knowing, understanding and interpreting music by: Diversifying the skills, the procedures and technical means of working with a choral ensemble, acquired in previous years; Diversifying and enhancing the artistic and pedagogical personality, presented while relating to a choral ensemble; Approaching more complex methods of conducting, using pieces written in binary or ternary metrics, with homogeneous and heterogeneous structures, in concentrated and decomposed beating, annotated in alternative and heterogeneous meters (aksak); Approaching pieces from all stylistic periods up to the present time. Going through every form or genre of choral music, which combines monophonic, polyphonic, and homophonic structures. 8. Contents 8.1 Course Teaching methods Observations I A recap of the conductor s means of expression: 1.1. The gesture, dynamic element in choral conducting; 1.2. Positions and conducting movements. II Conducting technique: 1.1. Metro-rhythmic problems; 1.2.Tactation exercises on aksak and alternatemeter rhythms; 1.3.Thourough study of tactation for the 6,9 and 12-meter measures, through decomposing values ; III Cantata. Oratory. IV The accent. The tonic accent and the expressive accent.
