3 About Classroom Cantatas These two cantatas were written and perormed by Ellis Mendell Elementary School 2 nd Grade classes as part o Classroom Cantatas, an educational program o Cantata Singers. Working with musicians rom Cantata Singers in weekly sessions, students sang toger, discussed components o song writing, and met in small groups to write new songs. The groups n learned each or s songs and rehearsed m, resulting in a new cantata, a collection o songs on one topic. The students perormed ir cantata or or participating urban Boston schools on a ield trip to Roland Hayes School o Music in Roxbury where all cantatas were recorded and put on CD or each student. By perorming ir cantata or ir amilies, school community and or participating schools, students experienced unique accomplishment o sharing original work with an audience. Each student receives a souvenir copy o this piano-vocal score.
