2 ENG_B S Types of Music Outline Content In this lesson you will learn about the different types of music. What kinds of music do you like and dislike? Do you enjoy going to concerts. Let's practice more with the present perfect to ask people about their music knowledge and concert experiences. Learning Outcomes Learn about different genres of music. 5 Have you heard of Bob Dylan? Have you been to a folk concert with your family? Yeah, he is an American folk singer. No, my parents like folk but I prefer more upbeat music. Have you seen any famous people in concert recently? Yes I have! I saw the band Coldplay in concert last year. Have you tried listening to rap music? Yeah I have, but I like music to have a melody not just lyrics and a beat. Have you written any music or lyrics No, I have never written any yourself? music or lyrics but I would like to try. 4

7 Any popular song you hear on the radio usually has a rhythmic beat played by drums, a melody which is played by instruments like the guitar and piano and lyrics sung by one or a group of singers. 6

8 Speaking Dialogue Kelly Hey George, have you been to any concerts recently? Really!? What type of concert was it? That s not a real concert! I proper concert has pounding music and a mosh pit! Boring! I would fall asleep in five minutes with soft music like that. George Yeah. I went to one last week in fact. I like classical music, so I went to see our city s philharmonic orchestra in concert. No way. I prefer nice melodic music not loud noise. You have no taste in music. 7

10 I prefer to listen to pop music because it s upbeat and I can sing-along to it. I haven t been to any concerts recently because seeing a pop star in concert is super expensive! Anyways, there are always new bands on the radio that I like. 9
