1 THE UNIVERSITY of TENNESSEE Ur MARTIN 40 th ANNUAL HONOR BAND FESTIVAL January 24-26, 2019 FINAL INFORMATION Parking We have been assured by campus police that no tickets will be issued to vehicles without University Parking Permits during the Festival. Try to park close to the Fine Arts or the University Center, if possible. If you do receive a ticket, please bring it to headquarters in FA 132, and we will take care of it. Buses, Construction, and Parking There is a quite a bit of construction on campus this year. With the Fulton Theatre under renovation, our portion of our parking lot is not available. It is virtually impossible for buses to turn make the corners -there was an incident involving a bus and two cars this week. If you will be arriving with a bus, please drop your students off by the entrance of the parking lot or, preferably, by the sidewalk across from the Elam Center (right next to the blocked parking lot entrance) on the northwest side of the FA parking lot. See the campus map included. Registration After arriving, please register and pick up your packet in the Fine Arts Band Work Room -FA 132. Warm Up Rooms The Warm-up Room for High School students will be the Band Room-FA133. The Warm-up Room for Junior High School students will be the Fulton Theatre in Fine Arts. Your school's packet will contain name badges for yourself and all participating students, maps, festival schedules, a list of area restaurants. Student name badges are to be worn at all times during Festival events. Auditions Auditions for both High School and Junior High School students will take place in the Fine Arts Building. After arriving, your students should warm up and then proceed to auditions as soon as possible to avoid a bottleneck later in the afternoon -we appreciate your help with this. A detailed list of room assignments will be in your packet. Results will be ed to directors and be posted in several places throughout the building. Additionally, be sure that high school students auditioning for the Wind Ensemble prepare the material for both the Wind Ensemble AND their default ensemble (Concert Band for grades 9-10, Symphonic Band for grades 11-12).
2 Wi-Fi Free guest Wi-Fi service will be available. Choose the "UTM Guest" network. You will be asked to enter your address for registration, accept the terms and you will be connected. This network will not be able to stream content. Fees - Receipts Receipts for fees mailed in will be in your school's packet. See Tammy Owensby in FA 108 for other receipt needs. Rehearsal Breaks/UTM Student Chamber Ensemble Performances There are 15-minute breaks scheduled during the long rehearsal blocks. During these times UTM Student Chamber Ensembles will be presenting short performances in the main lobby of the Fine Arts Building and University Center. Please encourage your students to attend these. They will be short enough so students will still be able to have some time to chat, use the restroom, etc. Director's Sessions and Rehearsal Observations We strongly encourage all directors to participate in the Director's Sessions. Additionally, all rehearsals for all of the festival bands are open. We encourage any directors, parents, etc. to spend some time observing the students and guest conductors. Director's Reception Due to low attendance during the past few years, there will not be a Director's reception following the Montage concert. Hospitality Room The Director's Hospitality Room will be in FA 170 (Green Room). Water and coffee will be available all day and light breakfast will be served in the morning until 10:00 am on Friday and Saturday. Amro Music will be sponsoring the Hospitality Room this year. Department of Music Auditions If any of your students wish to schedule a UTM-Department of Music audition during the Festival, please have them sign up for a time during the initial registration on Thursday in FA 132. Sign-up sheets will be available for all instruments, including voice and piano. These auditions may serve as entrance auditions for music majors/minors and scholarship auditions for majors, minors and non-major participants only. Instrument Storage & Considerations Percussion - We have assembled enough percussion instruments to outfit each ensemble. Please bring sticks and mallets only. Large Instruments - Tuba, Euphonium, Baritone & Tenor Saxophones may be left in the rehearsal spaces where they will be secured. Flute/Piccolo - If you have a student who is interested in being considered for piccolo, please have them bring them along. The only audition requirement will be a scale of the adjudicator's choice. Concert Dress Concert Dress for each ensemble will be nice dress. Please keep the choices modest and refrain from jeans and printed apparel. Look classy and professional.
