(Staff was decreased by one by attrition in later years.) 16 ACTING ENSEMBLE QUARTER FOUR Writing Comedy Choose comedy scenes for performance Direct and create full performance for entire school: Responsibilities; Program two class members list all program information, select cover, etc. Props 2 class members collect props for each scene create a prop table Set Design 2 class members List all configurations with title of scene assign stage hands reproduce the pictures Intros 2 class members Collect intros, type and edit them. Last Cues 1 class member gather the last cue lines for each scene for lights and sound. Sound and Music 2 class members Collect a list of sound cues, create list. Choose music for between scenes. Video and historian 3 class members take pictures throughout process, create picture book with script Make a dvd of the performance.

Study alternate formats for writing comedy, prose, poetic, investigative theatre. Write an original piece of their choice to address any message the class agrees upon. 20 HAUPPAUGE S ARTS ACADEMY Rationale To develop a complete comprehensive Arts Education Program including Career Experiences in courses such as Stagecraft, Music Recording Technology, and Video Production. Cost Savings Substitute the BOCES Cultural Arts program with our own program would enable our students to remain in Hauppauge while providing the opportunities for all of our students. For the cost of sending three students to BOCES we could provide Dance and Musical Theatre classes for all of our students. Cost to attend BOCES ½ day tuition plus transportation is approximately $ 15,000. per student. At that time we had five students in BOCES (two Musical Theatre students and three Dance students).
21 THEATRE STUDENTS LEARN Oral Communication Skills, Creative Problem Solving, Motivation and Commitment, Ability to work independently and cooperatively, Time budgeting, promptness and respect for deadlines, Acceptance of rules, Respect for Colleagues, Respect for Authority, Adaptability and Flexibility, Ability to work under pressure, A Healthy Self image, Acceptance of Disappointment, Ability to bounce back, Self Discipline, a Goal oriented approach to work, Concentration, Dedication, Responsibility, Leadership Skills, Self Confidence, to work in a multi age setting, the Ability to stand in front of a group of people, present yourself and enjoy it. THE GREATER STUDENT BODY AND COMMUNITY LEARN: Appropriate audience behavior, Appreciation of live performances, to see people they personally know perform on stage, to attend live theatre performances, to see Theatre Classic repertoire and pieces that relate to real life situations, to have Cultural Experiences, to see their reading assignments come to life, to respond to artistic presentations, to recognize that Hauppauge is a community that encourages and supports the ARTS.
