1 Title: Keyboard Lab II SENIOR SCHOOL MUSIC COURSE OVERVIEW Prerequisite (s): Grade of B or higher in Keyboard Lab I or permission of instructor 2 credit (s) 60 hour (s) S2 - S4 level (s) Course Code: required or elective Course Description This course is a continuation of Keyboard Lab I and is for those students who wish to improve the skills learned in the foundation class or for students with some demonstrable keyboard experience. Enhanced skills and proficiency are expected throughout the course. Students will focus on more advanced chord structures such as minor, diminished, and augmented. Students will study piano literature at the ABRSM grade 2/3 level. There will be a more in depth look at the piano and its literature from the Baroque Romantic eras. Students are required to perform either in class for their peers or with an ensemble in concert depending on their proficiency level. The requirements for this course are as follows: Course Requirements Performance Assessments: Students will play: - six major scales ( four of which are two octave) - five minor scales - arpeggios in the same keys class participation performance from workbook or selected songs aural test for chord structures ABRSM grade 2/3 60% Product Assessments: - transcription of chord progressions -350 word essay on the historical development of the piano 20% Written Assessments: tests and quizzes on: - scales - key signatures - notes - harmonic structure - chord identification - musical elements and devices 20% Total 100% Ministry of Education 2008 Page 1
