2 A unique opportunity Come study, rehearse and perform music over a four week period with the renowned Bach expert Helmuth Rilling. Helmuth Rilling founded the Festivalensemble Stuttgart in 2001 and since then has been its principal director. Apply now to take part in the 2006 sessions! Applications are invited from musicians worldwide. Singers should be aged between 18 and 30 and orchestral musicians aged between 18 and 28. Who, where, when The following works by W. A. Mozart will be studied and performed in 2006: Mass in c minor KV 427 Requiem in d minor KV 626 (both reconstructed and completed by Robert Levin) Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in d minor KV 466 Kyrie in d minor KV 341 All works will be performed several times. Rehearsals and concerts will take place from August 15 to September 11. You must be available for the whole time. The concerts of the Festivalensemble Stuttgart will be a major point of the Europäischen Musikfest Stuttgart. Other concerts will take place within the renowned Salzburg Festival, Lucerne Festival, Rheingau Music Festival and in the Essen Philharmony. Choir members are also encouraged to work with the voice coaches on additional works which they can bring with them. These can be performed within an open stage program in Stuttgart. Internationally renowned music teachers and professors of the oboe, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, horn, trombone, violin, viola, violoncello and double bass will work with the ensemble in group and general rehearsals. Travel, accommodation, meals and course fee costs will be paid for by the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart for all members of the ensemble. A 15.- (Euro) registration fee is charged for all applicants.(*) (*) special conditions apply for applicants from Eastern Europe, GUS and Africa.

3 Auditions take place in Europe, Canada and the USA between March 1 and 19, After auditioning, successful candidates will be notified no later than 30 April Applicants who cannot attend to one of our audition cities can send us a good quality recording on either MiniDisc, MC, CD or DVD to reach our office in Stuttgart before March 17. The ensemble was founded in 2001 and has rapidly developed into one of Europe s leading ensembles of its kind, impressing the public and critics alike with their concerts in Stuttgart, Kloster Eberbach (Rheingau Music-Festival), Bonn (Beethovenfeste), Berlin, Leipzig, Essen and Athens (Festival). During the first four seasons the emphasis was on large scale choral and symphonic works Verdi, Messa da Requiem / Messa per Rossini 2002 Beethoven, Missa solemnis / Fidelio 2003 Mahler, 2. Symphony / Berg, Violin concerto & Brahms, Ein deutsches Requiem 2004 Bruckner, 9. Symphony & Te Deum / Mendelssohn, Elijah In 2005 and 2006 focus is set on music by Johann Sebastian Bach and W. A. Mozart. The ensemble size is smaller and so the corresponding musical and personal demands placed on each musician are substantially higher. 7 Requirements Choir Experience in ensemble singing and a thorough preparation of the main works. Candiates must accurately prepare the audition pieces. Excellent pronounciation of the Latin texts, ability to sight read and the ability to sing without vibrato so that the voices blend well. Orchestra Thorough preparation of all the main works. Orchestral members should also be prepared to play any part within their respective instrument groups. August 30 September 11, 2006 Concert tour with Mozart Mass in c-minor to the international Salzburg and Lucerne Festivals and to the Rheingau Festival followed by extensive concert activites within the Europäischen Musikfest Stuttgart. Mozart s Requiem will be performed in the Essen Philharmony and Stuttgart together with Kyrie and piano concerto KV 466 towards the end of this second phase.
