1 Jeunesses Musicales Conducting Masterclass with HORIA ANDREESCU and SIGMUND THORP September 15 th -20 th, 2015 in Bucharest, ROMANIA with Jeunesses Musicales Masterclass Orchestra General Conditions: Admission: conductors of all nationalities and all ages can take part in this course. All candidates are expected to have thoroughly studied the program before the beginning of the course. Active participants: a number of maximum 14 active students will be accepted for the course. Horia Andreescu and Sigmund Thorp will choose the participants based on their applications! Auditors are welcome. The number of audience members is unlimited and they can attend all the courses. 4 For any other information regarding Jeunesses Musicales Conducting Masterclass, please contact the organisation office at the following address: and or by phone at: Horia Andreescu Founder of the Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra of Bucharest, associate professor at the National University of Music Bucharest and former director of the Romanian Radio Orchestras, Horia Andreescu is currently Chief Conductor of the George Enescu Philharmonic in Bucharest. His studies at the University of Music in Bucharest (composing and conducting with exceptional teachers), at the Music Academy in Vienna (with Hans Swarowski and Karl Österreicher) and the courses with Sergiu Celibidache form a solid base for his later development as a conductor. His numerous collaborations with orchestras from Romania and abroad - especially from Germany, where for 13 years he was "permanent guest conductor" at Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Berlin, 10 years at the Dresdner Philharmonie and 21 years at the Staatskapelle Schwerin left us with over 60 recordings on the discography market, 16 of which come from collaborations with European orchestras. Here are some of the more recent: a CD of his performance with Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Berlin, published by CPO in 2007, another recorded by Westdeutscher Rundfunk Koln (works of composer Pascal Bentoiu), published in 2004 by Hastedt, a CD released in 2008 by "Electrecord" with works by Dvorak and Mousorgsky-Funtek, registered with the Netherlands

5 Philharmonic Orchestra and, in 2009, the Byzantine Easter Oratorio by Paul Constantinescu, with the National Radio Orchestra, published by Casa Radio. Complete Enescu (8 CDs), edited by "Electrecord" and "Olympia- London" and often aired, brings a consistent contribution to this great conductor s international recognition, from Tokyo to New York. Horia Andreescu s numerous collaborations with orchestras from all over the world, such as the London Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Amsterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchesta, the symphony orchestras of Jerusalem, Nagoya, BBC Scottish, the radio orchestras of Madrid, Leipzig and individual tours with the National Radio Orchestra Bucharest and the "George Enescu" Philharmonic, festivals like Wiener Festwochen, Dresdner Festspiele, Europa Musicale Munich and, of course, the "George Enescu" International Festival in Bucharest, round up this concise presentation of this astounding conductor. Sigmund Thorp Sigmund Thorp is one of Norway s leading conductors. In addition to having conducted all the Norwegian orchestras, he has held numerous concerts with orchestras in many European cities, including London, Paris, Berlin and St. Petersburg. He was the 1 st. Prize winner of Biel International Conducting Competition 1989, and he also won 2 nd prize in the Austrian-Hungarian International Conducting Competition in Pecz, He studied orchestral conducting with Normal Del Mar and Christopher Adey at Royal College of Music in London. During his studies, he won several prizes, including The Tagore Gold Medal, as the best male student Sigmund Thorp is professor of conducting at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, educating tomorrow s conductors, in addition to teaching contemporary music. He is artistic leader of

6 the Norwegian Academy Sinfonietta, and has conducted more than 350 works by contemporary composers, of which a large number of national and international first performances. Based on the theories and practices of Dr. Walter Hügler (Trossingen) Thorp has developed The Anatomy of Conducting - a Method of Improving Conducting Technique. The method has proven to be highly effective for the musical projection and for the non-verbal communication between the musicians and the conductor. Sigmund Thorp has been Guest Professor at Trinity College of Music (London), the HAMU (Prague), Conservatorio Guiseppe Tartini (Trieste) and Kunstuniversität Graz.
