2 RNCM STRINGS FESTIVAL WELCOME The RNCM Strings Festival is a major event in the College s calendar a chance to see every single string student perform at some point over the weekend plus a showcase for internationally renowned artists who also happen to be our staff! We ve programmed 48 hours of incredible events from performances to masterclasses to workshops to appeal to string players and music lovers alike. This year s highlights include six major works for string ensembles (a rare opportunity to hear such arrangements). On Saturday afternoon, the RNCM s Haworth International Chair in Cello, Miklós Perényi, performs Kodály s Sonata for Solo Cello and the Festival s closing Gala ends with a performance of Brahms Double Concerto performed by Alexander Sitkovetsky and Leonard Elschenbroich. This Festival is a true celebration and a manifestation of how passionate we are about the music to be explored over the weekend by our students and special guests. We look forward to welcoming you to share this experience. Our exhibition will include stands from makers Alan McGeoch, Ayres Violins, Douglas MacArthur, Kai-Thomas Roth, Neil Értz, Noel Burke, Rolf Waefler, Tim Toft and William John plus more to be confirmed on the day. You are encouraged to bring your instruments (particularly cellos) and contribute to a Q&A. 5 2.30pm 3.30pm Forman Lecture Theatre LECTURE WITH HENK GUITTART MAHLER S ADAGIETTO Conductor and violist Henk Guittart discusses Mahler s Adagietto in this insightful lecture, featuring a new version of the work arranged by Michelle Castelletti for string quartet and harp. 2.30pm 3.30pm Studio 6 VIOLIN/VIOLA WORKSHOP WITH CATHERINE YATES Violin and viola players of all ages and abilities are invited to bring their instruments along for this interactive workshop led by Deputy Head of School of Strings, Catherine Yates.
