1 Friends f Music February Newsletter Please take a minute t review the CHS Music Department's upcming activities, perfrmances, and fundraisers. It s shaping up t be an exciting and busy spring! Save These Dates! Upcming FOM meetings Listed belw are planned dates fr the FOM meetings t be held in the Student Services cnference rm at 7PM. Any changes will be annunced by and the mnthly newsletter. The May meeting will include a vte n the slate f fficers fr next year. Chamber Chir Master Class: The Madrigals will participate in the Chamber Chir Master class n Mnday, February 10 at Wilde Lake High Schl. Chapernes will be needed. They will

2 perfrm three pieces fr the ther Chamber Chirs in the cunty and will have a clinic with Dr. Stephen Hlmes, wh is the Artistic Directr f the Maryland Bys Chir. Chir Adjudicatin: The Hward Cunty Chir Adjudicatin will be at Hward High Schl n Wednesday, March 12, 2014 with perfrmances at 5:10, 6:40 and 7:40 pm. Centennial Madrigals, Wmen s Chir and cmbined Cncert Chir will perfrm three separate pieces and will perfrm tw sight-reading examples. Their perfrmances are pen t the public. Band adjudicatin: The Hward Cunty Band Adjudicatin will be at Glenelg High Schl. --The CHS Wind Ensemble will perfrm at 5:50 PM n Friday, March 14, The CHS Symphnic Band will perfrm at 2:30 PM n Saturday March 15, Sme FOMtastic events SkyZne Fun Night Reserve yur spt fr a fun evening f jumping and scializing with yur friends frm band, rchestra and chrus. $20 gets yu 90 minutes f jumping, pizza, a water bttle and a required pair f Skyscks. Sunday, February 16th 7 PM t 9 PM (N schl the next day!). Space is limited t the first 115 t sign up. Sign up fr an auditin time n either February 5, 6 r 7. Auditin sign-ups are listed n the chir dr (703). Be prepared t sing a sng demnstrating yur vice (a sl sng r a sng sung in a chir class this year) and be prepared t sight-read a meldic and rhythmic example Band auditins: Increased enrllment may require an additinal (3 rd ) band. Therefre all band students are required t auditin scheduled February 18-28, 2014 Save the date: Marching band camp (required fr all marching band members) is scheduled fr August 11-22, Marching Band requirements fr a three band frmat will be determined, stay tuned! 6 In January, the Friends f Music (FOM) Nminatin Cmmittee (Nm-Cm) was fficially initiated. The FOM Nm-Cm is cmprised f representatives frm Orchestra, Chir, and Band. Their purpse t prepare the slate f FOM bard psitins, cmmittee chairpersns, and a vast array f crdinatrs fr events and tasks that supprt ur music directrs t keep ur music prgrams running smthly and effectively. This year we have many psitins available. FOM Bard Psitins include: President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Recrding Secretary. FOM Cmmittee Chair psitins include: Vlunteers, Nminatins, and Cmmunicatins/ Publicity. FOM Crdinatr psitins include: Orchestra Cncert Crdinatr, Madrigals Cstumer, Giant Gift Cards, Business Spnsrs, and the individual fund raiser events. FOM needs yu, yur time, and yur talents t be successful! Please cnsider taking that extra step t supprt the CHS Music Prgrams and vlunteer fr a FOM Psitin.
