1 Bassoon Pedagogy, MUP 481/581 - Fall 2015 Instructor: Dr. Albie Micklich Class time: Thursdays 7:30-9:30 am; Room: 318A albie.micklich@asu.edu Phone: Office: E-427 I. COURSE OBJECTIVES: Bassoon Pedagogy is designed for the student to be exposed to the art and science of teaching bassoon. This course is a comprehensive survey designed to supplement the more individualized information given each week in applied bassoon lessons. Whether pursuing an advanced performance degree, a career as an orchestral musician, a bassoon soloist, or a bassoon educator, you will undoubtedly encounter the need to teach bassoon at some point in your career. Just because someone is a good player, does not mean she/he has the necessary skills to be an effective, successful pedagogue. This class will present information so that you can learn about your craft from the inside out. Being well versed in pedagogy will make you a more versatile musician and can often times help your playing in ways you never imagined. II. COURSE MATERIALS: Required texts Each student will be given an individual list of texts, methods, etude books, reedmaking books, etc. to purchase. Repair and maintenance tools (see page 5). In order to give you plenty of time to purchase the required tools, a list was ed to each student on June 6, All tools are needed for the September 17 & 24 and October 1 & 8 classes. III. ATTENDANCE: It is your responsibility to arrive to all classes on time. A student is permitted to be tardy two (2) times, the third instance will result in her/his final, semester grade being dropped a full letter point (A becomes B; B becomes C, etc.). If a student is late four (4) times his/her letter grade will be dropped two (2) full letter points (A becomes C; B becomes D, etc.). A student is permitted one (1) unexcused absence, the second instance will result in her/his final, semester grade being dropped a full letter point (A become B; B becomes C, etc). IV. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY: All necessary and appropriate sanctions will be issued to all parties involved with plagiarizing any and all course work. Plagiarism and any other form of academic dishonesty that is in violation with the Student Code of Conduct will not be tolerated.

2 V. ACCOMMODATION NOTICE: To request academic accommodations due to a disability, please contact the ASU Disability Resource Center (Phone: ; TDD : ). This is a very important step as accommodations cannot be made retroactively. If you have a letter from their office indicating that you have a disability which requires academic accommodations, please let the instructors know no later than the end of the first week of the semester so we can discuss the accommodations that you might need in this class. VI. ACADEMIC CALENDAR: Please check for important dates regarding drop, add, and withdrawal. You are responsible for withdrawing from the class by the posted deadlines, should you wish to do so.!2
