1 Morning Song. Scott Irvine THE WORK: In 1 I comosed Aubade or Trumet and Organ. Over the years, it hasbecome so oularith trumeters, that Ihave beencomelled to make versions o the ork ith orchestra, brass band and chamber ensemble accomaniments. With the ormation o True North Brass in 17, I decided to adat Aubade into a brass quintet, sreading the melody around the grou and making it less o a trumet solo. In doing so Ielt the needto change the name o the ork to Morning Song in order to distinguish it rom the solo trumet versions o the iece. Over the years, it has been described as having a delicately transarent quality and a mood o istul nostalgia, and some have even suggested itis a musicaldeiction o a sunrise on an Ontario lake. True North Brass burst on to the Canadian scene in 17, and has since solidiied its reutation as one o Canada's most exciting ensembles. True North's membershi includes to outstanding comoser / arrangers ho create the ensemble's resh and unique rogramming. roudly Canadian in ocus and exression, True North Brass has been elcomed not only in Canada but in China and throughout North America. REVIEW True North Brass ere eatured guest artists at the International Brass Symosium in Atlanta, Georgia in March 000, chosen rom the elite o the international brass orld. They accomanied rime Minister Chretien's 1 trade mission to China, erorming recitals in Beiing and Wuhan and directing masterclasses at the Beiing Conservatory. The quintet has also erormed masterclasses and recitals at the Boston and Ne England Conservatories and toured British Columbia, Ontario, Tennessee, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, Ne Hamshire, Alabama, and lorida. True North Brass as eatured at the Ottaa Chamber Music estival in 1, 001, and oened the estival in 00. The members o True North Brass are Yamaha Artists associated ith Yamaha Canada. Scott Irvine is a Torontobased tuba layer and comoser. While still a student at the University o Toronto, Scott began his erorming career by laying in Dixieland bands and theatre orchestras. In 1, he oined the Canadian Oera Comany Orchestra, a osition he continues to hold today, and he is also a ounding member o the renoned True North Brass. Scotthas layed inthe E lat tuba section o the Hannaord Street Silver Band or many years,and is rincial tuba o the Esrit Orchestra. He is also a irst call musician in the Toronto recording studios, here he has recorded numerous ingles, albums, and ilm scores. O articular note as his orkon Sharon, Lois and Bram's Elehant Sho, here he rovided the musical voice or Elehant Highly committed to music o our time, Scott has commissioned or inluenced orks by a number o Canadian comosers, including Gary Kulesha, Oskar Moraetz, ohn Weinzeig and many others. In 17, Scott began comosition lessons ith Dr. Samuel Dolin at the Royal Conservatory o Music, and since that time has develoed a arallel career as a comoser and arranger. He has received commissioning grants rom the Ontario Arts Council, the Laidla oundation and the CBC, and is an Associate Comoser o the Canadian Music Centre and a member o the Canadian League o Comosers. Many o his orks and arrangements have been recorded or commercial release on a variety o record labels and have been erormed by a number o artists, including True North Brass, the Hannaord Street Silver Band, oan Watson, ack Grunsky, the Canadian Chamber Ensemble, and chamber grous rom the renoned Berlin hilharmonic.
