Each instructor makes his or her own arrangements to provide contracted services with students directly. Please contact the individual instructor for lesson fees and scheduling. Scholarships are available through the Friends of Civic Arts Education Foundation. French Horn, Beg Trumpet and Beg Trombone Trumpet Suzanne Chasalow (925) Suzanne Chasalow, B Mus Oberlin Conservatory, MM from Cincinnati College Conservatory. In Boston area, played with many of the area orchestras, including the Boston Pops, and was a founding member of the Boston Brass, and had an active teaching studio. She was adjunct faculty at Boston College, at the Winchester Music School, and taught at her home. In 1994 Suzanne moved to the SF Bay Area and has played with the Bay Area Women's Philharmonic, The Santa Rosa Symphony, and many other area orchestras. With Farallon Brass Ensemble, she leads a brass camp every summer for junior high and high school age students..suzanne teaches in Martinez, coaches at Stanley Middle school and Las Lomas High School, and also has taught at Community Arts. For 7 years, she was on the faculty of the Young Musicians Program at UC Berkeley, and has a teaching studio at her home in Martinez. Mike Rose Rosetrumpets@yahoo.com Mike Rose teaches at Civic Arts, the La Honda Music Camp and Diablo Valley College. In addition. Mike was the director of the College Park High School Jazz Ensemble. Mike s professional career spans over 30 years and he was awarded the Bay Area Blues Society Trumpet Player of the Year in He has performed with ensembles and performers such as Lenny Williams (Tower of Power), Randy Jackson (American Idol), Jon Faddis, Tommy Castro, Rober Diaz, and many more.

2 Stephan Betz Stephan Betz, PhD, Board Certified Music Therapist with 32 years OF experience; created Contra Costa s Welcome Home Baby Program and currently serves as Assistant Director for Health and Social Services and First 5 Commissioner in Solano County; specializes in helping children with autism; and related disabilities; also teaches piano and violin. Cynthia Schultz cschultz08@gmail.com Cynthia Schultz, BS, Music Education/Music Therapy, Univ. of Minnesota; actively teaching music for over 25 years as well as piano lessons, harp lessons and is a certified early childhood music specialist. Has professionally performed engagements with her harp for over 25 years and teaches early childhood music classes through her program- Notes to Grow On Also teaches harp and piano. James Cannata jcdrum@astound.net James Cannata studied percussion at Cal State East Bay and with distinguished teacher Chuck Brown. He is an accomplished drummer, singer, songwriter, and teacher with over 30 years of experience as a full time professional musician. He was also the director of the popular percussion group, Bangs & Beats.

3 Cello Stephen Evans Stephen Evans, BA, Music (Cello) from Univ. of Texas at Austin and Masters from Univ. of London; has taught cello and piano for 17 years; currently active member of several local symphonies and chamber groups. Also teaches piano. Guitar (Electric/Acoustic) & Ukulele Harp Jon Mendle (707) Jon Mendle has toured with Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble, and made his Carnegie Hall debut while still a student at the age of 19. He received his Bachelor s and Master s degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where his teachers included Sergio Assad, David Tanenbaum, Lawrence Ferrara, Marc Teicholz, and Dusan Bogdanovic. His first album, entitled L Infidele, was produced by his teacher, Latin Grammy winner Sergio Assad, and released in January, 2011 on In A Circle Records. He is a member of the San Francisco Guitar Quartet and The Pacific Guitar Ensemble, and has performed throughout the United States, as well as in Canada and Germany. After receiving her Bachelors and Masters in Music, Ms. Chirgwin performed with The California Symphony, The Fremont Symphony as assistant principal second, Santa Cruz County Symphony, Wheeling Symphony Orchestra, Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Erie Philharmonic, Indiana University Festival Orchestra, among others. Ltd. Diane Barton Brown Diane Barton-Brown, BA (Flute) Univ. of Houston and Masters (Voice) Rice University, has over 20 years experience teaching traditional and Suzuki flute and voice. A performing member of Performing Arts Society of Contra Costa and the Berkeley Piano Club, she was principal flute in the Houston Civic Symphony for 19 years. Also teaches flute.

7 Diane Barton Brown, Flute Diane Barton-Brown, BA (Flute) Univ. of Houston and Masters (Voice) Rice University, has over 20 years experience teaching traditional and Suzuki flute and voice. A performing member of Performing Arts Society of Contra Costa and the Berkeley Piano Club, she was principal flute in the Houston Civic Symphony for 19 years. Monica Williams, Flute and Recorder monicaw14@hotmail.com Monica Williams, B, Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY. Studied with Bonita Boyd. She is a professional music educator with extensive experience in both teaching and performing. Currently, Monica is working with several contemporary ensembles in the Bay Area, including Phoenix Rising. She has recorded four albums which have received many awards, including 5 nominations to the Hollywood Music in Media Awards. In addition, she is a member of the Performing Arts Society of Contra Costa, and is the Center Representative for The Royal Conservatory (RCM) exams.
