2 WELCOME TO CONCERT SEASON! Dear friends! We have so many extra reasons to celebrate this year: Choral Arts is turning 35, and our popular series marks its first milestone of 5 years! In , we will look at the ways the Lutheran Reformation movement has shaped and inspired musical expression for 500 years. In addition to cantatas and motets by one of the most famous Lutheran composers, J.S. Bach, our programs will feature a variety of emotion-stirring music from XVI-XXI centuries: from Michael Praetorius and Heinrich Schütz to Felix Mendelssohn, Hugo Distler, and our contemporaries, Philadelphians Kile Smith and David Carpenter. Mark your calendars now for a couple of additional special events: New Year s Eve with Claudio Monteverdi Vespers of 1610 and a tribute to the founding director of The Bach Festival and the Philadelphia Singers, Michael Korn. With our intimate mid-week culture breaks, we want to keep building a closer relationship between performers and listeners, to help people realize that beauty is an essential aspect of our daily lives and needn t be a big event.
