2 A Hero s rocession Ryan Meeoer This piece is a celeration piece to honour those ho risk their lives everyday to make our orld a etter place to live. The opening measures need to e played ith strong, almost accented, eeling, very similar to a anare. Although the melody is ritten or oth the alto sax and trumpet, the trumpet is to e dominant to relect this anare style. Be sure this eeling continues into measure 9 as all remaining instruments enter to ill out the sound, and provide harmonies to the main melody. At measure 19, a light, slo march eel is created. Be careul the ass instruments do not overpoer the sot sound o the clarinet. When all instruments return at measure 27, make sure the lute s countermelody can e heard, so all other instruments should control their dynamic. The opening melody returns at measure 35, roken up y short percussion reaks. Make sure percussion instruments can e eatured y not alloing all the other instruments to hold their notes into the rests. ractice cutting o the notes, ithout making them too short or exaggerated. The piece closes ith the original material returning at measure 51. Have this played ith the same energy as the piece opens ith, and this energy is kept right up until the inal note. Ryan Meeoer is a music educator, ho otained his degree through the Ontario Institute or Studies in Education at the University o Toronto. As a composer, he has ritten and arranged many pieces or concert and, jazz and, and small ensemles. His young and piece, Last Voyage o the Queen Anne's Revenge, has een ell received y perormers, educators, and audiences, and his pieces are starting to e ound on estival and contest lists. As a perormer, he has had experience in several groups, including concert and stage ands, chamer choir, vocal jazz ensemle, acoustic duets, and the Hamilton ased sing group, The Main Sing Connection. Ryan egan studying music at the age o seven through private guitar lessons. During his years in elementary and secondary school, he gained experience in several amilies o instruments. ocusing on music education and theory (including composition and orchestration), he attended McMaster University to achieve his honours degree in music.
