2 (3) A particular entrance requirement for the Musicology subject is the successful participation in an aptitude assessment procedure. [ ] (4) Particular entrance requirements for the academic subjects to be studied at the University of Duisburg-Essen are set forth in the relevant regulations of the University of Duisburg-Essen. (5) Admission to the study course can only ensue when all the entrance requirements of the desired combination of subjects have been fulfilled. Procedure (1) For all study applicants, the procedure comprises the "General Music Teaching" part examination assessed (written test of approx. 90 minutes in duration) as well as the "Music-related Communication and Presentational Ability" part examination assessed (colloquium of a maximum of 10 minutes in duration). (2) For study applicants with an artistic subject, the procedure additionally comprises the "Auditory skills" part examination assessed (as part of the "General music theory" part examination in accordance with Section 1), the part examination assessed in the artistic discipline (duration 20 minutes) as well as the non-assessed placement test in the Piano compulsory subject, provided that Piano was not selected as the artistic discipline. When assessing aptitude in the various part examinations, the expected development capability will be taken into due account. (3) In the first "General Music Teaching and Auditory Skills" part examination (written test), basic knowledge shall be provided of general music theory as well as the ability to hear and identify elementary melodic, rhythmic and formal contexts. The "General Music Teaching and Auditory Skills" part examination is composed of the General Music Theory part areas (for all study applicants) as well as aural training (for study applicants with artistic subject only), which will be assessed separately. (4) In the second "Music-related Communication and Presentational Ability" part examination (colloquium), the candidates must provide evidence that they are able to develop approaches to their own conceptual notions on music and musicology with regard to the requirements in subsequent vocational fields. This evidence may be provided by the candidates with one artistic subject analysing and interpreting one of the music pieces presented by them, and placing it into a historical context; candidates with an academic subject are expected to present a work chosen themselves, a composer chosen themselves or an epoch chosen themselves. The evidence can also be provided by the candidate applying systematic or ethnological concepts to a musical phenomenon chosen themselves. In this part of the examination, evidence is expected of the candidates' ability to convincingly express themselves on music and the history of music against the background of the experiences they have gained up to now. page 2 of 16

3 (5) In the third part examination in the artistic discipline (for study applicants with artistic subject only), candidates are expected to provide evidence of the skills and artistic design abilities required for their artistic discipline, to the extent that a successful course of study may be assumed. Aptitude is expected in an artistic discipline offered by the university. One of the following subjects can be selected as the artistic subject: instrumental training in any of the artistic instrumental subjects available as a course offering at the Folkwang University of the Arts - these are: Vocal Studies, Music Theory as well as Choral and Ensemble Directing. (6) Particular admission requirements for the academic subjects to be studied at the University of Duisburg-Essen shall remain unaffected by the above. More information on this is laid down in the relevant regulations of the University of Duisburg-Essen. (7) Admittance to the study course can only ensue when all the entrance requirements of the desired combination of subjects have been fulfilled. Examination formats, assessment criteria and weighting of grades for the artistic aptitude test The following specifications apply depending on the choice of artistic discipline: Choral and Ensemble Conducting Artistic aptitude shall be provided by a practical test in the subjects: - Ensemble Direction Conducting a prepared polyphonic choral work and an unprepared easier choral movement (Bach-choral degree of difficulty) in exercise conditions at the piano (duration approx. 8 minutes). - Vocal Studies Performance of two pieces from different epochs, of which one unaccompanied; sight-singing of a moderately difficult choral part (altogether approx. 8 minutes) - Keyboard Instrument Performance of three pieces of literature of intermediate difficulty (including one work by J.S. Bach) and a score playing task of simple degree of difficulty with no preparation (altogether approx. 9 minutes). The following assessment criteria will be applied: - Ensemble Direction Basic knowledge of conducting technique and possibilities of expression in conducting; discernible responsiveness in classifying (and dealing with) unknown literature - Vocal Studies Vocal disposition and expressive skills; physical, vocal and linguistic aptitude; basic sight-singing knowledge. - Keyboard Instrument page 3 of 16

4 Average performance level in instrumental musical ability and recognisable musical expressive skills; stylistic differentiation capability; basic knowledge in prima-vista score reading. The arithmetic mean of the weighted performance marks achieved in the subjects tested then gives the overall aptitude examination grade. The marks obtained in the individual subjects tested are weighted by the following key: - Ensemble Direction x 3 - Vocal Studies x 2 - Keyboard Instrument x 2 Instrumental Training and Vocal Training / Vocal Studies To test the artistic aptitude in the instrumental or vocal discipline (duration approx. 20 minutes), three works of intermediate difficulty from different stylistic periods shall be presented. The selection list from the competition "Youth Makes Music" with degree of difficulty 3 to 4 may serve as orientation. For the artistic aptitude examination in the Vocal Studies artistic discipline, presentation of a poem or short prose text shall additionally be prepared. The following assessment criteria will be applied: - Instrumental Training Average performance level in instrumental techniques and recognisable musical expressive skills; stylistic differentiation capability - Vocal Training / Vocal Studies Average performance level in vocal techniques and recognisable musical expressive skills; physical, vocal and linguistic aptitude; stylistic differentiation capability. Music Theory For the examination in the Music Theory artistic discipline, a portfolio with the candidate's own compositions, exercises in style, arrangements/instrumentations or analyses of musical works shall be presented. Evidence of the required understanding shall be provided in a discussion lasting some 20 minutes on music literature works presented plus harmony/counterpoint works or compositions written by the candidate to be brought into the examination with him/her. The following assessment criteria will be applied: A keen ear for music; skills in compositional techniques; analytical abilities page 4 of 16
