The following categories have had rule changes: Songwriting - rules regarding accompaniment and lyric sheets Songwriting, Modern Hymn - rules regarding accompaniment and lyric sheets Art - rules regarding framing Dance - rules regarding apparel and presentation time limits Writing and Film Categories - delivery instructions have changed Flash Fiction - new word count rule American Sign Language Categories - new presentation rules 2. Submission guidelines have been changed for writing categories. We will no longer require a pre-festival submission system. All writing entries must be brought to the event on Saturday, April 7, 2018, by 9:00 a.m. For more information on the number of entries for each category please see the individual category rules. 3. There has been a name change to First Person Essay. It is now called Creative Fiction/Memoir. IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW: LOCATION: GT Church, Decatur. 500 South 27 th St. Decatur, IL Fees are non-refundable, but can be transferred to another entry before deadlines (regular registration rates apply). ALL ART DIVISION/WRITING DIVISION must be brought to the event by 9:00 AM. Please do NOT mail entries. ALL SHORT FILM ENTRIES will be judged prior to the event. Entries for this category must be submitted and labeled in accordance with the rulebook and received in the ISM office by March 31st. No exceptions. Please see the FAQ section for specifics on this category. It is the responsibility of the students, parents, and youth leaders to be completely legal and ethical in their conduct regarding copyrighted music, scripts or any other original published or unpublished works. 7 2018 Illinois District Fine Arts Festival Saturday, April 7th FAQ s Q. What is the theme this year? A. There is no theme for Participants may choose an effective ministry topic of their choice. Q. What is Kappa Tau? A. Kappa Tau is a discipleship tool of the Assemblies of God designed to help students continue discovering and developing their ministry gifts after they have graduated from high school and are no longer eligible for the Fine Arts Festival. Through this Festival, college-aged participants are given the opportunity to continue developing their ministry gifts by having their entries evaluated by qualified professionals, teachers and ministers who encourage excellence and offer ideas for improvement. Specific information developed for the Kappa Tau portion of the festival including a Kappa Tau rule book can be found at kappatau.ag.org. Q. Where can I get promo videos and other materials to help encourage my students to participate? A. Promo videos and other promo material are available online at ilsmonline.com and are also available at faf.ag.org. Q. When and how are Writing Entries book chapters, short stories, essays, poems, and script writings to be turned in? A. WRITING DIVISION ENTRIES will NO LONGER be judged prior to the event. Writing entries must be printed in Times New Roman or Arial fonts and may contain no art, word art, borders, etc. (with the exception of Children s Lit) No exceptions. Entries must be brought to the event by 9:00 AM on 4/7. Q. When and how should my Children s Literature entries be submitted? A, Children s Literature entries will NO LONGER be judged prior to the event. All entries must be brought to the event by 9:00 AM on 4/7. Q. When and how should Short Film entries be submitted? A. ALL SHORT FILMS will be judged prior to the festival. Short Film entries must be submitted to the ISM office by March 31, No exceptions. Upload the video to Vimeo and send link to finearts@idcag.org with name/title in the subject line. Please make sure your file is viewable/downloadable. Q. When does my artwork have to be submitted? A. ALL ART DIVISION ENTRIES must be brought to the event by 9:00 AM on 4/7 with the required typed information page. Please DO NOT mail art entries. Q. When should my artwork be picked up? A. ALL ART DIVISION ENTRIES must be picked up from the art exhibit room by 6 PM. Q. I have a question about the rules. What do I do? A. You may the Fine Arts Team at finearts@idcag.com. Q. I have a scheduling request. What do I do? A. ISM reserves the right to schedule you at any time during the festival. However, we are aware that there are situations which may require special attention. Please submit ALL special scheduling requests in writing with your original registration form. We will do our best to accommodate your needs. This option is not available solely to meet your preferences. Please make sure your requests are valid and important.
8 Q. How can I find out how my performance will be evaluated? A. Every category has specific information detailed in the official 2018 Fine Arts rule booklet. Additional evaluation criteria can be found at Illinois follows the rules set forth by the national office. Q. How do I get another copy of the rule book? A. Download a copy from the Fine Arts web site at (a link to this also available on our website arts) Q. What do I do if I receive a Superior with Invitation level in my category? A. If you receive a rating of Superior with Invitation or Advance, you are officially invited to attend the National Fine Arts Festival in Houston, Texas. Your church leader will receive registration information with your award certificate. National registration information is also available online at faf.ag.org. Online registration is available for National Fine Arts through June 1, You are not required to attend the national festival. Q. When and where is the National Fine Arts Festival going to be held? A. The 2018 National Fine Arts Festival will be held in Houston, Texas on July 30 August 3, For more information, visit faf.ag.org. Q. What should I bring? A. Music for you or your students to rehearse with, original music and copies. For any presentation requiring audio, only digital MP3 recordings are permitted. MP3 format is preferred. Art Entries, Writing Entries, dress clothes and shoes, sewing kit, safety pins, food money, and any late registration fees you may owe. Q. Can I make copies of the registration forms from ISM? A. Yes. All registration forms are designed to allow photocopying. Permission to duplicate ISM forms is granted. Q. Will the schedule be available prior to the festival? A. Yes.
