2 Backgrund Infrmatin Ceducatinal barding and day schl fr ages In a recent ISI inspectin, Miltn Abbey, a c-educatinal day and barding schl fr ages situated midway between Blandfrd and Drchester, was judged as being highly successful in achieving its aim t enable each pupil t achieve their academic ptential. The reprt als praised the Schl s excellent teaching prvisin and highlighted its carefully structured and brad curriculum. Miltn Abbey is prud t ffer the bradest range f vcatinal subjects in the independent sectr, alngside GCSEs and A Levels. Miltn Abbey is cmmitted t the individual and delivers an educatin that is meant t challenge, stretch and develp yung men and wmen int leaders and assured adults wh pssess cnfidence withut arrgance. The Schl became fully c-educatinal frm September 2012 and jined the Rund Square grup f schls in Current develpment prjects include a new Centre fr Cuntryside Management and Equine Studies and a new Art Centre and Gallery. All these exciting develpments have been underpinned by Miltn Abbey s cmmitment t the pillars f Rund Square IDEALS, namely internatinal understanding, demcracy, envirnmental awareness, adventure, leadership and service. The Schl lies in a wded valley and ccupies the site f a frmer Benedictine Mnastery, funded ver 1000 years ag. The tw remaining Mnastery buildings, the Abbey (which is used as the Schl Chapel) and the Abbt s Hall (which is the used as the Schl Dining Hall), arund which a Gergian mansin was built in the late 18 th Century, accmmdate tw huses. Mdern facilities n a par with much larger schls have been added including a Music Schl, Art Schl, classrms and labratries, an ICT centre, a fully stcked library, Technlgy wrkshps, a 370 seat theatre, a 25 metre indr pl, recreatin hall and full sized astr-turf. The schl has stabling fr up t eight hrses, a pheasant sht, an ambitius self-sufficiency market garden prject, pigs, sheep and chickens. The schl is run by the Headmaster, supprted by the Deputy Head, a teaching staff f 40 and has a capacity f 300 pupils. All staff appinted are expected t cntribute t the barding eths f the schl, supprting bth the Deputy Head with pastral wrk and the Directr f Adventure Training & Activities with a full and busy games prgramme. A music teacher lking t develp yur prtfli, yu will have respnsibility fr the cntinued success f the Miltn Abbey Internatinal Music Festival and summer schl. Yu will be an experienced leader f yung peple and adults with a prven track recrd f teaching and perfrming music and will be able t make music accessible and enjyable fr all. Yu will have strng rganisatinal skills and previus experience f directing chirs and instrumental ensembles. THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT The Music Department is lcated n the first flr f a cnverted barn blck, adjining the New Barn Theatre (capacity 370) which is used fr sme recitals and the biennial Whle Schl Musical. The 14th-century Abbey is the beating heart f the schl. With its incredible acustic, The Abbey is a sught-after perfrmance space and is well-equipped with a fine tw-manual tracker actin rgan by Gray & Davisn (1868) n the quire screen. The Abbey is regularly used fr schl chapel services and cncerts; it is als the fcal pint f the annual Miltn Abbey Internatinal Music Festival and Summer Schl. The Miltn Abbey Internatinal Music Festival and Summer Schl was established in July 2013 as a develpment and extensin f the lng standing Miltn Abbey Festival. Nw in its fifth year, the event has grwn t becme truly internatinal, drawing participants frm all ver the wrld. The Summer Schl fr singers is run by internatinally-renwned a capella grup VOCES8 cncurrently with the Music Festival cncert series. In recent years, the Festival has included perfrmances by The Gabrieli Cnsrt, tenr Paul Phenix, jazz trumpet Andy Dickens and his band, and f curse VOCES8 with barque ensemble Les Inventins. The Festival traditinally ends with a large chral wrk accmpanied by an invited rchestra that includes players frm Burnemuth Symphny Orchestra and varius Lndn rchestras. Within the music department, there are three classrms and a recrding studi, all equipped with pians. Additinally, there is a Bradwd grand in the Abbey, and a Steinway B grand in the King s Rm, which is used regularly fr recitals, including thse in the Prfessinal Recital Series established in The department is well staffed by the Directr f Music, Organ Schlar, part-time Music Technlgy teacher, and nine experienced visiting music teachers wh cver all manner f instruments and singing, as well as mre unusual disciplines such as Acting Thrugh Sng and DJing. Vcal music is the Schl s frte and the inclusive Abbey Chir invlves arund 60 pupils in chral singing n a weekly basis. Alngside this, the department runs a Chamber Chir, a

4 Girls Chir, and the Music Schlars Vcal Ensemble. The Cncert Band caters fr all instrumentalists, and pupils are encuraged t frm their wn grups and bands. Miltn Abbey christers have enjyed turs t Venice, New Yrk, and Paris in the past fur years where they have sung in venues including St Mark s Basilica, the Cathedral f St Jhn the Divine, and Ntre Dame de Paris. Several pupils in recent years have gne n t study Music and Music Technlgy at university and music cllege, and there are a number f pupils thrughut the Schl with aspiratins t d the same. Currently arund 20 pupils are enrlled n ne r mre music curses in the Sixth Frm, where we ffer BTEC Level 3 and the A Level in Music Technlgy; GCSE Music (Edexcel 9-1 specificatin) is ffered in the lwer schl. Music Schlarships are awarded annually at 13+ and 16+ entries. Hurs: Hlidays: Salary: Prbatin: Pensin: This is a full-time pst, Mnday t Saturday. Yu are entitled t all schl hlidays. Public hlidays falling when pupils are in Schl during term time are wrking days. Ntwithstanding, yu will be expected t be in attendance and residence fr the duratin f the Music Festival and it will be necessary fr sme f the preparatin t take place utside f term-time. These duties will run alngside the cntinued develpment f the Miltn Abbey Music prgramme and the Directr f Music respnsibilities. The salary range is between 30,000-35,000 and t be agreed depending upn experience and qualificatin. The psitin is subject t a tw and a half term prbatinary perid, which may be extended. The Schl cmplies with the its legal bligatins in relatin t the prvisin f access t a pensin scheme and will autmatically enrl the emplyee in a cntributry pensin scheme when required by law.
