2 CAA 2 of 8 January 20, 2015 To: Meg Daly, Chair of ASCC From: Janice M. Aski, Chair of ASCC Arts and Humanities Panel Dear Meg, At our meeting on Friday, January 16, 2015 the Arts and Humanities Panel reviewed the proposal from School of Music to revise the Bachelor of Arts in the Music program. With the goal of fulfilling students desire and need for more disciplinary concentrations, the program proposes to eliminate the current elective credits in Musicology and Music and create elective concentrations in Performance, Musicology, Theory, Composition, and Jazz Studies. In addition, there is a no-concentration option for those students seeking the traditional flexibility of the Bachelor of Arts in Music. Current students in the Bachelor of Arts will have the freedom to choose whether to stay on the existing program or to switch to the new program. The panel found this proposal to be clear and thorough, and unanimously approved the changes to the BA in Music. Respectfully, Janice M. Aski
3 CAA of 8 College of Arts and Sciences School of Music Undergraduate Studies 110 Weigel Hall 1866 College Road Columbus, OH Phone Fax music.osu.edu December 18, 2014 Subject: Revision to the Bachelor of Arts in Music To Whom This May Concern, The School of Music is requesting a revision to the Bachelor of Arts in Music program. While the current program is considered to be very flexible, the School s faculty believes that many students also desire and need disciplinary concentrations in addition to the flexibility inherent to the program. Current or prospective music students who are interested in pairing music with a program outside of the School will be very interested in the newly revised program. We expect enrollment in the School to increase modestly as a result of these revisions. In the new program, the School is creating concentrations in Performance, Musicology, Theory, Composition, and Jazz Studies. The credits used for these concentrations stem from the musicology and music electives present in the current form of the program. In addition, there is a no- concentration option for those students seeking the traditional flexibility of the Bachelor of Arts in Music. Current students in the Bachelor of Arts will have the freedom to choose whether to stay on the existing program or to switch to the new program. Sincerely, Timothy Leasure Associate Director Chair of Undergraduate Studies The School of Music
