2 RWBAF 2018 PIANO FESTIVAL Closing date for entries 30 th April, 2018 Saturday 30 th June and Sunday 1 st July, 2018 at RWB Academy Lime Kiln, RWB, SN4 7HG ADJUDICATOR Ruth Gerald FRCM Ruth Gerald was Head of Keyboard Studies at the Royal College of Music from 1992 until 1999, having previously been Head of Keyboard at the Birmingham School of Music. Her career has always pursued a very wide path, solo and lecture recitals, concertos, chamber music, Lieder recitals, accompanying, adjudicating, examining and teaching. Born and educated in Australia, Ruth Gerald began her musical career there. After gaining a Bachelor of Music degree at Adelaide University she continued with postgraduate studies at the Royal College of Music where she was awarded many Prizes, including the Hopkinson Gold Medal. Recently she has given Masterclasses in UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Malta, and Greece and conducted many seminars for piano teachers in UK, Malaysia, Singapore, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. She is frequently invited to adjudicate world-wide and is actively involved in many aspects of the work of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. PLEASE NOTE RWB Arts Festival is fortunate to have use the facilities of RWB Academy and its grand piano for this year s Piano Festival and to have the support of G4S and its staff. The Syllabus gives pianists opportunities to enter a variety of classes and perform different pieces. Please see the First Timers section. Please note that age ranges are changed to match School year groups In 2014, we included a special section to mark the centenary of the start of WW1. For 2018, we expect there will be many events marking the end of WW1 with the likely climax at 11.00am on Sunday 11 th November Please think of this when choosing your pieces SPECIAL TROPHIES The Debbie Lovell Cup is awarded for the Highest Mark achieved across all Solo Piano Classes Pianist of the Year The Pat Davies Memorial Cup is awarded for the Highest Mark achieved across all music classes by an entrant aged 9 years or under. 2

3 SOLOS & OTHER CLASSES Entry fees: Solos 6.00, Duets/Trios 8.00 Time limit 5 mins unless stated otherwise First timers Class FTP This is for people of any age who have never taken part in a Festival before and may not have performed to an audience before. You may not be having lessons or may have just started lessons. You do enjoy playing the piano. You are welcome to have someone with you at the piano Please complete your entry form giving as much detail as possible. When the timetable of classes is worked out, we will try to make sure you are given a suitable time according to your age and chosen piece. You will not be marked but will have a certificate and helpful comments from the Adjudicator. Composer Class 2017 Adjudicator, Ruth Gerald challenges you choose a piece by any English Composer from the 18 th Century to the present day. Current exam syllabi give you plenty of scope. Adaptations suitable for players working at the lower grades will be accepted. The Adjudicator will concentrate on how you accompany the piece and not your soloist s performance.
