2 Biography (405 words) A recent graduate of The Juilliard School s Doctor of Musical Arts program, pianist Sookkyung Cho has performed throughout North America, Europe, and her native country, Korea. She has appeared in Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, Steinway Hall New York, Sarasota Opera House, Baltimore Museum of Arts, Beaux concerts de la releve in Quebec, and Château de Fontainebleau in France, among others. Ms. Cho has been featured in major music festivals including Yellow Barn, Norfolk, and Sarasota. In 2010, she was a Performing Associate at the Bowdoin International Music Festival, where she taught as an assistant to Boris Slutsky, her long-time mentor. An avid chamber musician, she has also performed with great artists such as cellist Michael Kannen, violist Maria Lambros, and pianist Christina Dahl, and is a founding member of Tr imbue, a New York-based piano trio with violinist Stanichka Dimitrova and cellist Emily Brausa. An advocate of contemporary music, she has also premiered works by her fellow composers including Wei-Chieh Lin, Ted Goldman, and Daniel Temkin. An emerging performer-scholar, Ms. Cho was selected to present a lecture-recital, entitled Understanding Editorial Issues Schubert s Sonata D. 959, II. Andatino by the College Music Society for its biennial International Conference in Her passion for Schubert s music is also evident in her doctoral dissertation, Schubert s Sonata in B Major, D. 575, Reimagined, which was accepted for the degree in May Ms. Cho began her musical training in Korea, where she was also an active singer and conductor. Her vocal performances were seen on major broadcasting systems, and she was awarded the Best Conductor s Award at Yewon Arts School at the age of fourteen. After moving to the U.S. at sixteen, she attended New England Conservatory Preparatory School, studying with Jonathan Bass, and subsequently earned degrees from The Juilliard School (BM; DMA) and the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University (MM), under the tutelage of Boris Slutsky, Julian Martin, and Matti Raekallio. She has garnered a number of honors, including Piano Department Award by NEC Preparatory, John Erskine graduation prize, C. V. Starr Fellowship, and merit scholarships from Juilliard, Graduate Assistantship, Career Development Award, and Grace Clagett Ranney Prize in Chamber Music from Peabody, and top prizes at Samik Piano Competition Korea, Chosunilbo Piano Competition Korea, Harrison L. Winter Piano Competition, and International Beethoven Piano Sonata Competition. She has also taught as a Piano Instructor in the LINKS Signature Arts Program and as a Teaching Fellow in Piano Minor and Music Theory Departments at Juilliard.
