All Day Heavy Metal Parking Lot Exhibit Presented by the "Heavy Metal Parking Lot: The 30-Year Journey of a Cult Film Sensation" tells the story of two aspiring filmmakers, Jeff Krulik and John Heyn, who struck cultural gold in the parking lot of the Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland, on May 31, It charts the film's subsequent path into the hearts of fans, filmmakers, musicians, actors, artists and scholars during the last 30 years. The exhibit will also highlight other materials in the Jeff Krulik Collection (BA, UMD, 83), which was accessioned by Special Collections in Mass Media & Culture at the University of Maryland in November All Day UNITY Interactive Installation Presented in partnership with Leadership and Community Service-Learning Add your perspective to this interactive public art project, a larger-than-life canopy structure that celebrates each individual s unique identities while demonstrating that we are all interconnected. Cafritz Foundation Theatre 12:30-1:15PM Terry Riley: Olson III Presented by TEMPO New Music Ensemble Terry Riley's innovative piece Olson III utilizes flexible instrumentation and is composed of small modules that must be performed in order and in tempo, though the number of repetitions of these modules is left up to the individual performers. The resulting cacophony is an amorphous mass of overlapping modules that build throughout a performance of the piece. 12:30-1:30PM Maryland Community Band Enjoy classic American fare and international repertoire including big band, Broadway and film music.
