2 SESSION ONE Ralph Allwood Music Director Doctor of Music from Aberdeen University, MBE Oliver Tarney Assistant Music Director Head of Composition and Singing at Winchester College 8-15 Both Ralph Allwood and Martyn Ford direct and teach on the highly acclaimed Eton Choral Courses which Ralph established over 30 years ago. Eton is one of the most famous English schools where choral singing has a long tradition going back many centuries. They both continue to strive to instil a passion for music in children. The course provides great opportunity for students aged 8-15 to receive a top-quality musical experience delivered by experienced UK teachers here in Shanghai. Most of the course instructors are graduates from top UK universities and colleges, (Oxford, Cambridge and Durham...) This course is centered round the children and is based on the English pastoral school ethos. A well-known UK choral course exclusively taught at Pao School 8-15 For all children aged 8-15 who love to sing I only teach music that can touch people. I will not teach music just for the sake of teaching, and I don't think the important thing is whether the music is meaningful. 4 FAQ Do students in the course sing all day long? The course focuses on choral singing, and the daily schedule is balanced to ensure students get the most out of it. There are rehearsals in both small and large groups. The course also includes, music games, reading and sports activities. Is the course curriculum in both sessions the same? The two instructors teach different musical repertoires and each Course culminates in a final concert which usually combines a major choral work with lighter pieces. How many students are there per class? What is the teacher to student ratio? There are about young singers on the choral courses. They are divided into groups of 10 (consorts), with one to two teachers assigned to each. Are students divided by age? When we divide the students into teams, and their age will be taken into consideration. The older students play an important part in enriching the vocal line and where appropriate they can take on more independent roles. Is the course too easy for those already have music training? Quite the contrary. The choral courses are musically very challenging and the students will be developing all their musical skills pitching, ensemble, rhythm, reading... The students will also be introduced to new musical styles and through the repertoire they will continue to develop and strengthen their musical appreciation.

6 2017 This course is totally unlike other choral courses. They taught us that singing is just like yawning - it's a natural sound. different from other choral courses. They use vivid metaphors to describe the emotion at each point of the music. For instance, in the song "The Call," the emotion in the first line is like what you feel when you receive a birthday gift - it's a thrilling feeling. - Student of 2017 Choral Course, 2017 My daughter practised songs every day before she went to bed. She also set her alarm clock to ensure she woke up early to practice songs in the morning.
