6 about the ensembles The Kennesaw State University Trumpet Ensemble has experienced tremendous growth over the last four years, now boasting nearly 20 members and a diverse calendar of performance opportunities. Recently, the ensemble travelled to the International Trumpet Guild conference, and performed a prelude concert before a nighttime showcase concert. The ensemble has also played at the Trumpet Festival of the Southeast, competed at the National Trumpet Competition, and been a featured ensemble at KSU for events ranging from the annual trumpet holiday concert to the opening of the Skip-Spann connector. The Harrison Orchestra Program is a part of the Cobb County School s Fine Arts program. It is nestled in the beautiful Georgia pines of Kennesaw, Georgia, and is home to one of the fastest growing areas in the nation. Harrison High School currently houses over 2,000 students in grades 9-12 and is consistently rated among the best schools in the county, state and national level. The program consists of four orchestras Concert Orchestra, Classic Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and the Harrison Symphony Orchestra. The Concert Orchestra is composed of mostly freshmen that come mainly from the following middle schools: Durham Middle School (Jennifer Aikey, director), Lost Mountain Middle School (Linda Stephens, director), or McClure Middle School (Clare Mansell, director). Kennesaw State University Philharmonic Orchestra is an orchestra for string players from across the university, including players who are nonmusic majors or music majors wishing to perform on a secondary string instrument. Playing in the Philharmonic is a great way for KSU students to continue enjoying musical experiences throughout their college years. The orchestra performs a wide variety of string orchestra literature from different time periods. The orchestra is under the direction of Professor Christopher Thibdeau and rehearses on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:00-3:15 p.m. in the Bailey Performance Center. Each semester the orchestra performs approximately two concerts and collaborates with members of the KSU Wind Symphony to form a full symphony orchestra.
7 biographies DOUGLAS LINDSEY, Lecturer of Music, Trumpet Douglas Lindsey joined the faculty at Kennesaw State University in the fall of 2012, and is very active in the Southeast. Recently as a soloist, he has been a featured artist with the Memphis Symphony, the Kennesaw State Orchestra, the Kennesaw State Wind Ensemble, the Georgia Brass Band, at the International Trumpet Guild conference, at the Atlanta Trumpet Festival, and at the Trumpet Festival of the Southeast. An advocate of new music, over the course of the two years he has premiered four new works for trumpet. Alongside pianist Judy Cole, he has performed solo recitals all over the Southeast as a founding member of Duo Trompiano. In addition to solo work, Dr. Lindsey enjoys an active chamber music career as first trumpet with the Premiere Brass, as founding member of the Atlanta Trumpet League, and as a member of the Isthmus Brass. As an orchestral musician, he regularly performs as the principal trumpet of the Georgia Symphony Orchestra, as section trumpet with the Atlanta Symphony, the Memphis Symphony, the Macon Symphony, and spent two summers at the Aspen Music Festival. As an educator, he maintains a vibrant studio of young trumpeters at KSU and at various high schools in the area, and recently started a popular regional high school ensemble, the North-Atlanta Trumpet Ensemble. Most recently, the KSU trumpet ensemble garnered praise at the 2015 International Trumpet Guild conference where they performed Erik Morale s Infinite Ascent, and continue to find success at the National Trumpet Competition with their consecutive semi-finalist placements. Other studio accomplishments include multiple winners from the International Trumpet Guild scholarship contest, job placements, successful graduate school placements, and multiple winners of KSU s Concerto Competition. Dr. Lindsey s former duties as music history lecturer at KSU as well as his many experiences on the cornetto and the baroque trumpet reflect his keen interest in the fields of early music and musicology. As an avid composer and arranger, he enjoys creating work for trumpet ensemble, brass quintet, and brass ensembles. His published dissertation, Beyond the Galant, is an arrangement of four Haydn symphonies for trumpet with historical information about Haydn, performance practice, and the history behind
8 many of the works. This work is distributed by Hickey s music and available at His many other arrangements and compositions are available on his website Previous to his time at KSU, Dr. Lindsey played concerts all over Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois with the acclaimed Wisconsin Brass Quintet. Prior to his tenure with WBQ, Dr. Lindsey performed with the Yale Faculty Brass trio in a series of concerts ending in Carnegie Hall in New York City. In addition to the faculty brass, Dr. Lindsey also pursued a busy schedule with the Atticus Brass Quintet winner of the 2009 Aspen Music Festival Quintet Fellowship. With Atticus, Dr. Lindsey had the opportunity to play outreach concerts all over Connecticut, perform alongside the American Brass Quintet, and play an exclusive concert on the Millennium Stage of the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Previous to earning his DMA at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Dr. Lindsey studied with Allan Dean at Yale, earning his Master of Music with the distinction of winning the John Swallow excellence in brass prize. Prior to Yale he studied with Ray Mase, Louis Ranger, Kevin Cobb, Scott Moore and Richard Rulli. Dr. Lindsey received his music performance and music education degrees magna cum laude from the University of Arkansas- Fayetteville. ANGELA BADDOCK, Conductor Angela Baddock graduated from the University of Georgia with a Master s degree in Music Education. While at UGA she studied violin under Dr. Michael Heald and performed with the UGA Symphony Orchestra. Mrs. Baddock also holds a Bachelor s degree from Clayton State University where she studied under Judith Cox, a member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Mrs. Baddock taught middle and high school orchestra at Heritage Christian School before beginning her graduate degree, and this year is Mrs. Baddock s ninth year with the Harrison Orchestra. A freelance violinist, Mrs. Baddock performs with the Georgia Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Timothy Verville. She previously was a member of the Southern Crescent Symphony Orchestra under Dr. Richard Bell s direction as well as a founding member of the Interlude String Ensemble. Mrs. Baddock and her husband, Shaun, live in Marietta, Georgia with their children, Keegan, Corban and Cali.
9 Limited-Term Assistant Professor of Music Education Christopher Thibdeau, recently named Limited-Term Assistant Professor of Music Education (Strings) at Kennesaw State University (KSU), is also the Music Director of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestras of Atlanta, the Assistant Conductor of the Georgia Tech Symphony Orchestra and the Conductor of the Atlanta Chamber Music Festival. Christopher has previously served as the Interim Music Director of the Georgia Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, the Conductor & Artistic Manager of Orchestras for the Atlanta Music Project, Associate Conductor of the Brighton Symphony Orchestra, and Cover Conductor of the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra and Firelands Symphony Orchestra. At KSU, Mr. Thibdeau teaches courses in strings pedagogy and education, leads the KSU String Project, and serves as the conductor of the KSU Philharmonic. As an educator, Christopher has presented workshops and educational concerts in New York, Connecticut, Maine, Vermont, Texas, California, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky and other areas across the U.S. He was a panel speaker at the 2007 Connecticut State Music Teachers Association State Convention and has been featured as a guest speaker and moderator for the Eastman School of Music Polyphonic.org webinar series. Most recently Mr. Thibdeau spent ten days as a guest artist at the Afghanistan National Institute of Music in Kabul where he taught cello and conducting lessons and also had the opportunity to instruct the first ever female Afghan conductor, Negin Khpolwak. Christopher has participated in many conducting workshops and seminars, including the Conductors Retreat at Medomak under the direction of Kenneth Kiesler, the New England Conservatory Summer Institute where he studied under Frank Battisti and Charles Peltz, and the International Conducting Institute with the Round Rock Symphony under Maestro Peter Bay. Christopher Thibdeau began studying the cello at the age of 8 and conducting at the age of 13. As an undergraduate student at the Eastman School of Music, Christopher was accepted into the conducting studio of Neil Varon and twice conducted the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra in the prestigious Eastman Theater.
