2 WORLD LANGUAGES Spanish and French Next year, as an elective, seventh and eighth graders can sign up for a World Language class. We offer French and Spanish levels 1, 2 and 3 or Spanish for Native Speakers 1 (SSS 1). For SS1, you will be given a placement test in seventh grade to determine if you can take the class as an eighth grader. You ll need these credits for high school, so why not take them now? 12 Introduction To Engineering Design (PLTW) 8 th Grade (Pre- Requisite CADD/ARE) Puzzle Cube Project This is the capstone course to the Engineering Pathway here at Wood MS. Introduction to Engineering Design TM (IED) is a high school level course that is appropriate for students who are interested in design and engineering and are strong in mathematics (preferably taking Honors Geometry). The major focus of the IED course is to expose students to design process, research and analysis, teamwork, communication methods, global and human impacts, engineering standards, and technical documentation. 15 Beginning Band and Orchestra For 6 th, 7 th, and 8 th grade students who play or would like to learn to play an instrument! Instruments: Band Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone, Tuba, Percussion Orchestra Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass Play level I and II music of all different genres and styles, learn new techniques and skills on your instrument as well as music history, and perform at concerts throughout the school year! Full Year Course
16 Advanced Band and Orchestra For 7 th and 8 th graders who have completed at least one year in a beginning music ensemble (6 th graders by audition). Play level II, III, and IV music, develop techniques and skills on your instrument, and perform at concerts throughout the school year! Attend Music in the Parks competition at the end of the school year at an amusement park! Festival performance in the morning, enjoy the park the rest of the day. This year we are going to Hershey Park at the end of May! Full Year Course
17 Chorus For 6 th, 7 th, and 8 th grade students who would like to develop their singing skills! Perform level I, II, and II music a capella and accompanied, learn to sing music on sight, in rounds, and in harmony, as well as develop an awareness of musical styles and music history. Compete against other Montgomery County middle schools at the MCPS Choral Festival in April! Full Year Course

26 Lights, Camera, FILM, Literacy Is a continuation of LCL!, however LCL! is not a pre-requisite. LCL! Film focuses on the development of film from early film processes to digital animation. Students will mimic particular innovators, such as Melies and develop longer films over several weeks as the class and movie styles progress. This course focuses on the analysis of older films, therefore students will spend several periods discussing the literary, cinematic and theatrical qualities of the films that were impactful to film as we know it today. One of the novels read in this course is The Wizard of Oz by Frank L. Baum. Students will write several essays on the merits of the films watched in class. Full Year Course
