2 Since 1956, Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) has been NURTURING, CHALLENGING and INSPIRING generations of students, profoundly changing lives and our community for the better. MYSO has grown from one orchestra and 30 students to become, by several measures, the largest and one of the most respected youth orchestra programs in the United States. We serve 1,000 students during the academic school year who come from more than 200 schools throughout 14 counties in the greater Milwaukee area. In 2015 we were selected as a winner of the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award, the country s highest honor for after-school youth arts programs, presented by the President s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities. MYSO is the only youth orchestra program in the U.S. to have received this award. Today we offer more than 40 ensemble and enrichment options, ranging from symphony and string orchestras, jazz and steel pan bands, to music theory, composition, and international tours, providing quality musical experiences for a wide range of skill levels. This is the organization s only annual event that features every ensemble! WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 1, PM SEASON PREMIERE FEATURING THE CHAMBER ORCHESTRA Wilson Theater at Vogel Hall, Marcus Center for the Performing Arts The acclaimed Chamber Orchestra will perform. SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 19, PM FOUNDERS CONCERT This annual performance showcases our flagship orchestra, the Senior Symphony, and will feature Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Principal Trumpet Matthew Ernst as guest soloist. THURSDAY, JANUARY 25, :30 PM PROGRESSIONS WINTER WONDERS Golda Meir Auditorium The students of the Progressions program will perform. FRIDAY, JANUARY 26, PM RHYTHMIC REVOLUTION Performance features select Jazz combos plus the Calypso and Soca steel bands. SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 10, :30 PM SYMPHONIC SPECTACULAR Featuring the Prelude Orchestra, combined String Orchestras Central & North and Philharmonia. SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 11, PM CLASSIC CADENCES The combined String Orchestras West & South, Sinfonia and Chamber Orchestra are featured. SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 17, PM RUSSIAN RHAPSODIES Helen Bader Concert Hall Showcasing our flagship orchestra, the Senior Symphony, the concert will also feature internationally renowned bayan artist, Stas Venglevski, as guest soloist. SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 18, PM SYMPHONIC POWER Uihlein Hall, Marcus Center for the Performing Arts Featuring the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble. WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 28, :30 PM THURSDAY, MARCH 1, :30 PM SATURDAY, MARCH 3, PM JAZZ HERITAGE FESTIVAL Jazz combo performances by the young musicians in the Jazz Studies program as well as clinics led by professional jazz musicians. SUNDAY, MARCH 11, PM FLUTE FANFARE Schwan Concert Hall, Wisconsin Lutheran College This concert will feature MYSO s two flute choirs, Flute Chorale and Chamber Flute Ensemble. SATURDAY, MAY 19, PM STRING SERENADE The all-string ensembles Prelude Orchestra, String Orchestras South/West and String Orchestras North/ Central will be featured. SATURDAY, MAY 19, PM METAMORPHOSIS The Sinfonia Philharmonic and Wind Ensemble will be featured. SUNDAY, MAY 20, PM SYMPHONIC CELEBRATION This performance will feature the Percussion Ensemble, Philharmonia and Chamber Orchestra.
