2 R.S.V.P. is h is helping children acquire social behavioral skills, good manners, and more! Ms. Rose Ligon Coles, instructor This class will teach young people basic courtesies, proper manners, and social behavioral skills that will serve them throughout their lives. The Golden Rule Do unto others as you would have others do unto you guides this class. 1. Introduction. Etiquette for formal and informal meals, the telephone, the cell phone, the answering machine, thank you notes, and interpersonal interactions. 2. Housekeeping review: Making your bed, caring for your clothes, making a surprise breakfast tray for parents, etc. (Rule of thumb: you mess it up, you clean it up.) 3. Setting formal and informal tables properly. Simple flower arrangements. Using proper table etiquette. Handling faux-pas. 4. Learning to dress for any occasion - school, picnics, church, parties. Proper grooming and hygiene habits. Alternatives to fashion fads. 5. Special occasions. Proper trans generational interactions. Choices in music; learning simple dances. 6. Putting your best foot forward. Building confidence by the way you treat others. (Minimum age: 3 rd grade) 6 Tuesdays (8/25, 9/1, 9/8, 9/15, 9/22, 9/29) - 4:00 5:15 p.m. Tuition: $160 if paid by first class (plus supplies fee of $20, payable to Ms. Coles) Suzuki Violin Mr. Thornton Cline, instructor The world-famous Suzuki method is a fun-and-game way to learn the violin through rote ear and memory training. Children as young as three or four years old can pick up the violin and the bow and begin the process of making sound and music, just as they are learning to speak language in complete sentences. Like the language acquisition process, Suzuki violin uses modeling and repetition to develop the child s playing skills. Suzuki students get twice as much time compared to regular private lessons. Each student gets a 30-minute private lesson and a group lesson. The group lesson is a vital part of the Suzuki learning process, because it lets each child see and hear other children working towards a common goal. A parent attends the private lessons and becomes the child s home teacher. Students will use a music book and CD for home practice. After 13 weeks of Suzuki lessons, your child will have an excellent start on violin and will perform in our Suzuki Violin Recital. These students also perform in public venues two or three times per semester. Our Suzuki violin students are growing in number as well as in proficiency. In order to better meet the needs of our students this semester we are restructuring our lessons. This will allow us to provide additional one-on-one instruction for advanced students. Suzuki Strings I (Pre-twinkle) $435 Suzuki Strings II $460 (ages 2-5) (Books 1 & 2 ages 6 & above) 30 minute weekly private lesson & 30 minute weekly private lesson & 30 minute weekly group lesson 30 minute weekly group lesson Suzuki Strings III $680 Suzuki Strings IV $875 (Books 3 & 4) (Books 5 & above) 45 minute weekly private lesson & 60 minute weekly private lesson & 30 minute weekly group lesson 60 minute weekly group lesson Our instructor, Thornton Cline, has 25 years experience teaching both Suzuki and traditional violin. He has an MS in Music Education from The University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, and has completed all coursework towards his doctorate at Eastman School of Music. He studied Suzuki with Anastasia Jempelis, assistant to the founder, Dr. Shinichi Suzuki. NOTE: Group lessons are strongly encouraged. If you do not wish to participate in the group lesson, tuition will NOT be discounted.

4 Important Information Please Read Carefully Before Registering POLICY AGREEMENT Terms and Conditions Student Registration: Registration and tuition are due on or before Monday, August 17. If payment is not received by the due date, late fees will apply. Late fees will increase with each passing week of non-payment. If full payment is not received by the 2 nd class/lesson, the lessons will be terminated. The instructor will call a few days prior to the beginning of the semester to schedule the lesson time. The tuition will be prorated, and full payment will be due on August 17. New students may enroll during the semester if openings are available. In such cases, tuition will be due in full by the first lesson. NOTE: Students who have an outstanding balance from a previous semester will not be allowed to register for the fall semester until all is paid in full. Payment of Tuition: All lessons and/or classes are to be prepaid. Payment can be mailed or dropped off to the Administrative Assistant in the Heydel Fine Arts Center, along with the registration form and signed policy agreement. Due to an alarming amount of late or unpaid payments from the previous semesters, there will no longer be a deferred payment option. Fees for books or other materials are not included as part of the tuition. If accompaniment for a recital is needed, the fee will be based on time necessities and the difficulty of the music. If payment for the accompaniment is not paid by the due date, then no accompanist will be provided. The academy accepts cash, checks and most credit cards. NOTE: You must turn in the tuition payment, registration form and signed policy agreement in order to be registered for the term. Cancellation and Makeup of Private Lessons: Each instructor at the academy carefully plans his/her teaching schedule at the beginning of each semester after consulting with students and parents. Students and parents should try to avoid making changes to the scheduled lesson time, except when absolutely necessary. As a general rule, parents and students should give instructors as much advance notice as possible of any future absence from a scheduled lesson. If you know in advance that a lesson will be missed, notify the instructor at least 24 hrs prior to the scheduled lesson - more advance notice is preferred. Instructors will give their phone numbers to their students and parents, so that easy communication is possible. If an instructor is not available, the student/parent should nevertheless leave a message for the teacher, and additionally, call the director and leave a similar message. Lessons missed by students will not be made up, except for illness, a death in the family, or similarly extraordinary circumstances. Lessons missed by students with no notice to instructor will not be made up. Forgotten or missed lessons due to conflicting activities will not be made up. Students will not be financially reimbursed for missed lessons. NOTE: A maximum of two make-up lessons per semester may be scheduled for absences due to illness or an emergency only. * The instructor reserves the right to cancel a lesson as long as a makeup date is scheduled with the student.
