113 As a young man, Mozart had rediscovered the music of Johann Sebastian Bach ( ) during a visit to the Church of St Thomas, Leipzig. He spread out the music for a Bach motet, and moved quickly from part to part so as to take in the extraordinary counterpoint of so many voices. Later, young Beethoven made Bach his daily bread.
