2 ARE YOU THE FOUR OF THE FUTURE? The 2017 Rising Star Quartet Contest is back, better than ever with... The 2017 International Education Symposium (IES) Special guest emcee: Deke Sharon, the a cappella architect behind The Sing Off, Pitch Perfect movies and Broadway s first a cappella musical, In Transit 20 up-and-coming quartets who will set the tone for the future The 2017 Rising Star Quartet Contest is limited to 20 contestants with entries accepted in the order received. The entry fee is $100 USD per quartet and must accompany the 2017 Rising Star Quartet Contest entry form. Any member of a competing Rising Star Quartet who also registers for IES, sponsored by Sweet Adelines International, will receive a $25 discount on their collective Rising Star Quartet Contest entry fee. Competitors must submit both a 2017 Rising Star Quartet Contest entry form and a 2017 International Education Symposium registration form to receive the discount. Assignment of Recording and Film Rights The undersigned desire to compete at the 2017 Rising Star Quartet Contest of Sweet Adelines International. In consideration of being authorized to compete at said competition, the undersigned hereby agree to the following terms and conditions: The undersigned hereby grant to Sweet Adelines International the exclusive right to record, film, photograph and video ( Recordings ) any or all of the quartet s performances during the 2017 Rising Star Quartet Contest. Sweet Adelines International is authorized to reproduce such Recordings, broadcast or allow the public performance of such Recordings. All rights to fees, commissions, royalties, or profits received as the result of the distribution, sale or lease of the Recordings in any form are assigned to Sweet Adelines International to be used in any manner consistent with the purpose of Sweet Adelines International. Certification of Copyright Clearance We, the undersigned, hereby warrant and represent to Sweet Adelines International that with respect to the musical works we intend to perform at the 2017 Rising Star Quartet Contest, we have obtained from the appropriate music publishers, copyright owners, arrangers, and/or their respective agents, all licenses, grants of rights, and permissions that may be required for our performance of such musical works. INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION SYMPOSIUM 2017 IES is fully loaded with over 120 classes led by Pitch Perfect arranger and producer, Deke Sharon; authentic expression guru and vocal expression coach extraordinaire, Tom Carter; 2005 International Champion Quartet the BUZZ ; 2017 International Champion Quartet, Frenzy; and 34 famed faculty of Sweet Adelines International. Schedule at a Glance Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017 Arrival and check-in followed by Opening Session keynote presented by Sweet Adelines International President, Paula Davis. The evening will conclude with the Opening Reception. The Rising Star Quartet Contest will be emceed by Deke Sharon beginning at 2:30 p.m. The Closing Gala kicks off at 8 p.m., with performances by the BUZZ, Frenzy, the 2017 Rising Star Champion Quartet, the 2017 Mixed Harmony Champion Quartet and more! 5 We are Young Women in Harmony The Young Women in Harmony (YWIH) program delivers both musical excellence and quality music education that benefits young women worldwide. This program enriches students artistically, as well as improves their motor skills, communication and problem-solving abilities.
