1 Sault Ste. Marie Kiwanis Music Festival Piano Division March 1 to March 4 St. Luke's Cathedral, 160 Brock Street All classes are open to the public and free of charge PLEASE NOTE: 1. To perform you are required to fill out a Class Admission Form and hand this along with your music to the adjudicator or secretary just before you perform. Your music will be returned when the certificates are awarded at the end of your class. Please make sure that your music was returned. Class Admission Forms will be available where you enter. There is also a copy at the end of this document which you can print, cut out and complete ahead of time. 2. Performance by memory is required for all solo classes to be eligible for awards or scholarships. 3. While students will not be penalized for longer compositions, the suggested maximum length of compositions is 5 minutes for Junior Classes and 10 minutes for Senior Classes. The adjudicator reserves the right to hear only part of the composition. Adjudicator: Charlene Biggs Pianist Charlene Biggs made her professional debut with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra at the age of 14. Charlene received her Doctorate in Piano Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. She was a scholarship student at the Royal Conservatory of Music and the University of Toronto and completed a Masters Degree in Performance at Goldsmiths College, University of London, England. During her 12-year residency in England, she performed extensively as a soloist and chamber player in such prestigious venues as the Royal Festival Hall, The Barbican, St Martin-in-the-Fields, and The National Theatre. She has also performed in France, Italy, Austria, the Netherlands, USA, and throughout Canada. Charlene has been on the piano faculty of England s Colchester Institute, London s famed City Literary Institute, the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, and Laurentian University in Sudbury. She continues to share her talents as a professor in Cambrian s Music department, teaching piano, piano pedagogy, music history, and music performance. She was Assistant Chair of Piano at the Eastman School of Music (Community Education Division) in Rochester. Charlene is a senior examiner and a clinician for the Royal Conservatory of Music and the Frederick Harris Music Company. She has written nationally published articles on teaching and performance. Charlene is also an adjudicator and is regularly invited to give master classes and lectures on piano pedagogy across Canada. Charlene maintains a regular concert schedule, most recently playing two performances of Beethoven s Fourth piano concerto with the North Bay Symphony Orchestra.
