2 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Rob Thaler website The Artist Series of Tallahassee Begins Season with Baroque Music and Dance Tallahassee, FL August 19, 2013 The Artist Series of Tallahassee begins their five-concert season for with Baroque Music and Dance, a performance that will join exceptional period instrument musicians performing Baroque music with the historical steps and gestures of Baroque dance. Guest artists Julie Andrijeski, baroque violin, Barry Bauguess, baroque trumpet and Paige Whitley-Bauguess, baroque dance, will share the stage with the local Tallahassee Bach Parley and FSU Baroque Ensemble musicians. The concert will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 15th at Opperman Music Hall on the FSU campus. Baroque Music and Dance will feature music from Biber, Schmeltzer, Corelli and more, including a set of Folias, a musical theme represented in several complimentary works performed in sequence. The selections will feature the guest artists while integrating the steps and costumes of baroque dance, and will showcase the splendor of a large baroque ensemble as the members of the Tallahassee Bach Parley and FSU Baroque Ensemble fill the stage. Guest artist Julie Andrijeski, baroque violin, enjoys both teaching and performing early music and dance. 3 orchestra, chamber, and dance ensembles. Her combined skills in music and dance often culminate in workshops and special teaching engagements at colleges and universities. Barry Bauguess is one of North America s most sought-after Baroque trumpet concert and recording artists. He has served as principal trumpet with Apollo s Fire, The Portland Baroque Orchestra, Atlanta Baroque Orchestra, Opera Lafayette, Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra, and the Magnolia Baroque Festival Orchestra. Bauguess also frequently appears with other. He is currently a Kulas Visiting Professor in the Historical Performance Program at Case Western Reserve University and serves on the faculty of the Baroque Performance Institute at Oberlin Conservatory. Baroque dancer Paige Whitley-Bauguess interprets, recreates, and performs Baroque theatre dance in venues all over the world. She lectures and teaches master classes and workshops for museums and universities and has served on the faculties of the Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute, Modern Early Music Institute, the East Coast Baroque Dance Workshop at Rutgers University, and the Stanford Baroque Dance Workshop. The Tallahassee Bach Parley performs music of the Baroque era (approx ) using period instruments. This recreates for audiences the experience of hearing and seeing Baroque music as it may have been originally performed hundreds of years ago, while generating a fresh sound immediately accessible to listeners today. The Baroque Music and Dance performers are: Valerie Arsenault, baroque violin, Brian Arsenault, baroque viola, Kim Jones, baroque cello, Melanie Punter, baroque bass and Iain Quinn, harpsichord. Performing with the Tallahassee Bach Parley will be members of the FSU Baroque Ensemble: Lucas Brown, Bailey Salinero, and Aaron King Vaughn, baroque violins, and Justin Page and Katie Beth Farrell, baroque cellos. 4 The Artist Series season promises to bring five unforgettable concerts featuring a rich variety of established and emerging classical musicians of national and international acclaim. Season subscription tickets, called Passports, provide for six stamps for $99. Seniors (62+) pay just $89.
