5 Important Safeguards 5. Cleaning - Step a applies to equipment that can be disconnected from the CCTV system without seriously jeopardizing security. Step b applies to equipment that must operate continuously such as video switching equipment at military installations. a. Disconnect this video product from its power source before cleaning. Do not use caustic, abrasive, or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning. b. Use a damp cloth to clean the equipment. Do not allow moisture or liquids to enter any vents. Do not use caustic, abrasive, or aerosol cleaners. 6. Attachments - Do not use attachments not recommended by Vicon as they may cause hazards. GRAPHIC SYMBOL EXPLANATION The lightning flash with arrowhead symbol, within an equilateral triangle, is intended to alert the user to the presence of uninsulated dangerous voltage within the product s enclosure that may be of sufficient magnitude to constitute a risk of electric shock. The exclamation point within an equilateral triangle is intended to alert the user to the presence of important operating and maintenance (servicing) instructions in the literature accompanying the unit. 1. Read Instructions - All the safety and operating instructions should be read before the video product is operated. 2. Retain Instructions - All the safety and operating instructions should be retained for future reference. 7. Water and Moisture - Do not use this video product in any location where it may be exposed to water or moisture. This does not apply to outdoor camera housings, outdoor panand-tilt drives, and other equipment designed for direct exposure to outdoor environments. 8. Accessories - Do not place this video product on any unstable surface or table. The video product may fall, causing serious injury to a person and serious damage to the video product. Use only with a mounting accessory recommended by Vicon, or sold with the video product. Any mounting of the video product should follow Vicon s instructions, and a mounting accessory recommended by Vicon should be used. 9. Ventilation - Slots and openings in the cabinet are provided for ventilation and to ensure reliable operation of the video product and to protect it from overheating, and these openings must not be blocked or covered. The openings should never be blocked by placing the video product on a rug or other similar surface. This video product should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat register. This video product should not be placed in a built-in installation such as a bookcase or rack unless proper ventilation is provided or Vicon s instructions have been adhered to. 10. Power Sources - This video product should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the type of power supplied to your installation site, consult your Vicon dealer or local power company. For video products intended to operate from battery power, or other sources, refer to the operating instructions. 3. Heed Warnings - All warnings on the video product and in the operating instructions should be adhered to. 4. Follow Instructions - All operating and use instructions should be followed.

6 11. Grounding - This applies to video products equipped with a 3-wire grounding-type plug, a plug having a third (grounding) pin. This plug only fits into a grounding-type power outlet. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug into the outlet, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the grounding-type plug. 12. Power-Cord Protection - Power supply cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them, paying particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the video product. 13. Outdoor Cable Grounding - If an outside cable system is connected to the video product, be sure the cable system is grounded so as to provide some protection against voltage surges and built-up static charges. Section 810 of the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA , provides information with respect to proper grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna discharge unit, size of grounding conductors, location of antenna-discharge unit, connection to grounding electrodes, and requirements for the grounding electrode. 14. Lightning - For added protection for this video product when it is not used for long periods of time, disconnect it from its power source and from the cable system. This prevents damage to the video product due to lightning and power-line surges. 15. Power Lines - An outside cable system should not be located in the vicinity of overhead power lines or other electric light or power circuits, or where it can fall into such power lines or circuits. When installing an outside cable system, extreme care should be taken to keep from touching such power lines or circuits as contact with them might be fatal. 16. Overloading - Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords as this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock. 18. Servicing - Do not attempt to service this video product yourself as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. 19. Damage Requiring Service - Disconnect this video product from its power source and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions. Note that step c does not apply to outdoor camera housings, outdoor pan-and-tilt drives and other equipment specifically designed for direct exposure to outdoor environments. a. When the power-supply cord or plug is damaged. b. If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into the video product. c. If the video product has been exposed to rain or water. d. If the video product does not operate normally by following the operating instructions. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating instructions, as an improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the video product to its normal operation. e. If the video product has been dropped or the cabinet has been damaged. f. When the video product exhibits a distinct change in performance - this indicates a need for service. 20. Replacement Parts - When replacement parts are required, be sure the service technician has used replacement parts specified by Vicon or that have the same characteristics as the original part. Unauthorized substitutions may result in fire, electric shock, or other hazards. 21. Safety Check - Upon completion of any service or repairs to this video product, ask the service technician to perform safety checks to determine that the video product is in proper operating condition. 17. Object and Liquid Entry - Never push objects of any kind into this video product through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock. 9 1. Unpacking Unpack carefully. This is electronic equipment and should be handled carefully. Check to ensure that the following items are included: V5400MUX 4-Channel Digital Color Multiplexer Accessory Pack including 5VDC adapter Installation Instructions 2. Service If the unit ever needs repair service, the customer should refer to the Shipping Instructions at the end of this manual. This unit should be installed by a qualified technician using approved materials. Read these instructions through completely before attempting installation. 3. Description The V5400MUX Digital Color Multiplexer provides on-screen display of four camera inputs combined with numerous additional functions. Each quadrant may be sequenced full screen or be displayed in a quad split. The image display is updated at the field rate of 60 field/sec, providing genuine real-time video. In addition to the quad screen and PIP (Picture-In-Picture) display, the units offer VCR ZOOM playback function, to allow full screen viewing during tape playback. Note : 1. The V5400MUX provides a Color Adjustment menu to assist initial monitor adjustment. 2. If the video is to be looped out to other equipment, make sure that the final item of video equipment on each line is terminated with 75 ohms. 3. The time-lapse VCR can be connected to the unit to allow response to alarms. 4. Do not apply any voltage to any alarm input. It will damage the unit. 5. The V5400MUX does not echo received characters. 2

11 Programming Function All programming is done with the front panel keys. There are thirteen keys on the front panel. The key named MENU, 1/, 2/, 3/, 4/, and QUAD/ENTER are used in programming units The TITLE, VCR, ALM, ZOOM, FRZ, PIP and SEQ keys are not used in programming the unit. Functions of each key on the front panel are described in Table 1. Scrolls upward through program selections ; selects entries. Scrolls downward through program selections ; selects entries. Enter or set function Press the MENU key to display the programming screen. The following is displayed: MAIN MENU (1) TIME/DATE (2) CAMERA SETUP (3) ALARM SETUP (4) RECORD SETUP (5) DISPLAY FORMAT (6) EVENT LOG (7) PASSWORD SET (8) EXIT 5.1 Time/Date This menu allows you to setup the time and date of the video display and the quad screen. Select TIME/DATE on the Main Menu and press Enter key. The following menu is displayed: TIME /DATE (1) TIME FORMAT (2) DATE FORMAT (3) TIME/DATE SET (4) EXIT Time Format Select TIME FORMAT and press the Enter key. The following menu is displayed: TIME FORMAT 12 HOURS ( AM / PM ) TO EXIT PRESS (ENTER) KEY. 4

12 TIME FORMAT 24 HOURS ( ) TO EXIT PRESS (ENTER) KEY Press the 1/ and 2/ key to toggle and select the required format. The options are : 12 HOURS (AM/PM) 24 HOURS ( ) Press the Enter key to exit the menu Date Format Select DATE FORMAT and press the Enter key. The following menu is displayed: DATE FORMAT MM/DD/YEAR TO EXIT PRESS (ENTER) KEY Press the 1/ or 2/ key to toggle and select the required format. The options are: MM/DD/YEAR DD/MM/YEAR YEAR/MM/DD Press the Enter key Time/Date Setup Select TIME/DATE SET and press the Enter key. The following menu is displayed: TIME/DATE SET MM/DD/YEAR HH:MM:SS : 53 : 44 TO EXIT PRESS (ENTER) KEY. 5

13 Press the 3/ or 4/ key to move the cursor to the required position. Press the 1/ or 2/ key to establish the necessary digit. (Calendars until the year 2099 are in this menu.) Press the Enter key. 5.2 Camera Setup This menu allows you to adjust the dwell times of the 4 camera video displays and the quad screens. Select CAMERA SETUP and press the Enter key. The following menu is displayed: CAMERA SETUP (1) TITLE SET (2) CH1 DWELL : 5 SEC (3) CH2 DWELL : 5 SEC (4) CH3 DWELL : 5 SEC (5) CH4 DWELL : 5 SEC (6) QUAD DWELL : 5 SEC (7) EXIT Press the 1/ and 2/ keys to move the cursor to required channel. Press the enter key to increase the dwell time. Dwell times may be programmed from SKIP to 99 seconds. A setting of SKIP removes the channel from the sequence. Select EXIT and press the Enter key to exit the menu Camera Title Setup Select TITLE SET on CAMERA SETUP screen and press the Enter key. The following menu is displayed: CAMERA TITLES CAMERA 1 : CH1 CAMERA 2 : CH2 CAMERA 3 : CH3 CAMERA 4 : CH4 TO EXIT PRESS (ENTER) KEY. Press the 1/ and 2/ keys to move the cursor to required channel. Using the 3/ and 4/ keys to select the character position and the1/ and 2/ keys to select the character, select the camera title, up to a max of 8 character. Choose from the following for each of the characters: Number(0~9), Alphabet (26 letters), Special Characters ([.],[,],[:],[+],[-],[*],[/],[(],[)],[?],[ ]) Select EXIT and press the Enter key to exit the menu 5.3 Alarm Setup The ALARM SETUP menu allows you to set the alarm options for each of the video inputs. The alarm can be set for on or off, dwell time, polarity and video loss. The unit can also have the audio beeper set to on or off. Select ALARM SETUP and press the Enter key. The following menu is displayed: 6

14 ALARM SETUP (1) ALARM ON/OFF (2) ALARM DWELL (3) ALARM POLARITY (4) VIDEO LOSS ALERT (5) BUZZER OUT : ON (6) RELAY OUT : ON (7) EXIT Alarm On/Off You can switch the alarm function ON/OFF for each of the four video input channels. Select ALARM ON/OFF and press the Enter key. The following menu is displayed: Press the 1/ and 2/ keys to select channel. Press Enter key to toggle On or Off. Select EXIT and press the Enter key to exit menu. ALARM ON/OFF (1) CHANNEL 1 : ON (2) CHANNEL 2 : ON (3) CHANNEL 3 : ON (4) CHANNEL 4 : ON (5) EXIT Alarm Dwell Time The ALARM DWELL function allows you to set the automatic reset period after an alarm is generated. Select ALARM DWELL and press the enter key. The following menu is displayed : AUTO RESET TIME 60 SEC TO EXIT PRESS <ENTER> KEY Press the 1/ or 2/ keys to adjust the time. The options are : 1-60 SEC : automatic reset period. HOLD : alarm continues until the alarmed camera key is pressed followed by the ALM key. FOLLOW : alarm continues on during the period of input and will go off automatically. Press the enter key to exit the menu. 7

15 5.3.3 Alarm Polarity The ALARM POLARITY function enables you to define how the alarm is generated for each alarm input, either normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC) contacts. Select ALARM POLARITY and press the Enter key. The following menu is displayed: ALARM POLARITY (1) CHANNEL 1 : NO (2) CHANNEL 2 : NO (3) CHANNEL 3 : NO (4) CHANNEL 4 : NO (5) EXIT Press the 1/ or 2/ key to move the cursor to required channel. Press the Enter key to toggle the channel NO or NC. Select EXIT and press the Enter key to exit the menu Video Loss Alert The VIDEO LOSS ALERT function enables you to define if an alarm is generated when any of the video inputs is lost/defective. Select VIDEO LOSS ALERT and press the Enter key. The following menu is displayed: VIDEO LOSS ALERT (1) CHANNEL 1 : ON (2) CHANNEL 2 : ON (3) CHANNEL 3 : ON (4) CHANNEL 4 : ON (5) EXIT Press the 1/ or 2/ key to select channel. Press Enter key to toggle ON and OFF. Select EXIT and press the Enter key to exit the menu Buzzer Out The BUZZER OUT function allows you to enable or disable an audible alarm. Select BUZZER OUT on the ALARM SETUP screen by pressing1/ or 2/ key. ON or OFF is highlighted. Press the Enter key to toggle the function ON or OFF. Select EXIT and press the Enter key to exit the menu Relay Out The RELAY OUT function allows you to turn the relay out ON or OFF. Select RELAY OUT from the ALARM SETUP screen. Press Enter key to toggle ON or OFF. 8

16 5.4 Record Setup The RECORD SETUP defines how the unit s video output to the Time-Lapse VCR is recorded. Select RECORD SETUP and press the Enter key. The following menu is displayed: RECORD SETUP (1) RECORD TIME ZONE (2) FIELD DELAY : VEXT USED (3) REC MODE : TIME LAPSE (4) ALM REC : NO CHANGE (5) ALM SPEED : FOLLOW (6) VCR INPUT : CVBS (7) EXIT Record Time Setup The RECORD TIME function enables you to define how the unit s video output to a Time-Lapse VCR is recorded. Select RECORD TIME and press the enter key. The following menu is displayed: RECORD TIME (1) ZONE A START: 09 : 00 (2) ZONE A STOP : 18 : 59 (3) ZONE B START : 19 : 00 (4) ZONE B STOP : 08 : 59 (5) CAMERA 1 : ALWAYS (6) CAMERA 2 : ALWAYS (7) CAMERA 3 : ALWAYS (8) CAMERA 4 : ALWAYS (9) EXIT Press the 1/ and 2/ key to select item. Press the Enter key to set the required recording time (items 1-4). Press the Enter key to toggle the mode for : ALWAYS; SKIP; ZONE A; ZONE B; ZONE A, B Field Delay This menu allows you can set up the trigger signal from Time-Lapse VCR when the video output of the unit is connected to the VCR to be recorded. Select FIELD DELAY from the RECORD SETUP screen. (* Field Delay is only applicable when the REC MODE is set as TIME LAPSE mode.) Press the Enter key to toggle the options. The options are : VEXT USED 001 FIELD ( Number of field is selectable from 001 to 511field) Press 3/ and 4/ keys or Enter key to changes the number of field. Select EXIT and press the Enter key to exit the menu Record Mode Setup You can set up the recording mode. Select REC MODE from the RECORD SETUP screen. 9

17 Press the Enter key(or 3/ and 4/ ) to toggle the options. The Options are: REC OFF FIELD REC(R/T) : R/T is Real-Time FRAME REC(R/T) : R/T is Real-Time TIME LAPSE Select EXIT and press the Enter key to exit the menu Alarm Record Setup You can set up the recording mode of Alarm. Select ALM REC on the RECORD SETUP screen and press Enter key. Press the Enter key to toggle the options: NO CHANGE : Recording mode will remain as set on the REC MODE ( Time Lapse or Real Time ). EXCLUSIVE. : Recording will be only made of alarm channel. INTERLEAVE : Alarm channel will be interleaved in each recording interval for recording. Select EXIT and press the Enter key to exit the menu Alarm Speed Setup You can set up the recording speed at arising of an Alarm. Select ALM SPEED on the RECORD SETUP screen and press Enter key. Press Enter key to toggle the options and then 3/ or 4/ key to adjust the speed. The options are : FRAME REC(R/T) : Recording in frame with real time speed. FIELD REC(R/T) : Recording in field with real time speed. FOLLOW: Recording with the speed already set in REC MODE menu. 1~361Field : Select a time delay for the time lapse recording. Select EXIT and press the Enter key to exit the menu VCR Input This menu allows you to choose the recording & playback to be made through CVBS connector or Y/C connector. Select the VCR INPUT on the RECORD SETUP menu. Press Enter key to toggle CVBS(Composite Video) or Y/C(S-Vid). 5.5 Display Seutp Programming the display mode includes all formats for display on monitor. Select DISPLAY on MAIN MENU. The following menu is displayed: DISPLAY FORMAT (1) PIP MODE SETUP (2) COLOR ADJUSTMENT (3) BORDER LINE : WHITE (4) DISPLAY POSIT : TOP (5) TIME DISPLAY : ON (6) TITLE DISPLAY : ON (7) EXIT 10

18 5.5.1 PIP Mode Setup The PIP MODE menu allows you to set the size and the position of PIP (Picture-In-Picture) display on monitor. Select PIP MODE SETUP on the DISPLAY SETUP screen. The following menu is displayed: PIP MODE SETUP PIP SIZE SET : PIP POSITION SET : TO EXIT PRESS (ENTER) KEY. Select PIP SIZE SET on the PIP MODE SETUP menu. Press the 1/ and 2/ keys to move the size of PIP. Select PIP POSITION SET on the PIP MODE SETUP menu. Press the 3/ and 4/ keys to move the position of PIP. Press the Enter key to exit the menu Color Setup You can adjust the color brightness and contrast for each individual camera input for optimum display. Select COLOR ADJUST on the DISPLAY SETUP screen. The following menu is displayed: CAMERA 1 BRIGHTNESS IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII & CAMERA 1 CONTRAST IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII Select the camera(1 ~ 4) by pressing the 1/ key. Select Brightness or Contrast by pressing the 2/ key. Control brightness of camera by the 3/ key and 4/ key. Control contrast of camera by the 3/ key and 4/ key. Press the Enter key to exit the menu. 11

19 5.5.3 Border Line You can choose the border line for each of 4 displays on Quad screen. Select BORDER LINE on the DISPLAY SETUP menu. DISPLAY SETUP (1) PIP MODE SETUP (2) COLOR ADJUSTMENT (3) BORDER LINE : WHITE (4) DISPLAY POSIT : TOP (5) TIME DISPLAY : ON (6) TITLE DISPLAY : ON (7) EXIT Press the Enter key to select the required color of border line. The options are ; WHITE; GRAY; BLACK; NONE. Select EXIT and press the Enter key to exit the menu Display Position Setup You can set up the position of OSD (on screen display). Select DISPLAY POSIT on the DISPLAY SETUP menu. DISPLAY SETUP (1) PIP MODE SETUP (2) COLOR ADJUST (3) BORDER LINE : WHITE (4) DISPLAY POSIT : TOP (5) TIME DISPLAY : ON (6) TITLE DISPLAY : ON (7) EXIT Press the Enter key to toggle TOP or BOTTOM. Select EXIT and press the Enter key to exit the menu Time Display Setup Select TIME DISPLAY on the DISPLAY SETUP menu. Press the Enter key to toggle ON or OFF to display or delete the time display on monitor. The options are: ON: display the time display on monitor OFF: delete the time display on monitor Select EXIT and press the Enter key to exit the menu Title Display Setup Select TITLE DISPLAY on the DISPLAY SETUP menu. Press the Enter key to toggle ON or OFF to display or delete the title display on monitor. The options are: ON: display the title display on monitor OFF: delete the title display on monitor Select EXIT and press the Enter key to exit the menu. 12

20 5. 6 Event Log Record of the events, up to 220 events ( P-ON, PGM, ALM, V/L, A-CLR, ALM RS). Program event is only recorded when the contents are changed. If the event log is full filled with 220 events, recording will be stopped and EVENT FULL message appears until the event log are deleted. To check or delete the event log, select EVENT LOG on the MAIN MENU screen. Press TITLE & VCR key to delete the full-filled event log and the ALL EVENTS CLEARED message will appear. 5.7 Password Set Select PASSWORD SET on the MAIN MENU. Press the Enter key. The following menu is displayed: PASSWORD SETTING (1) PASSWORD : DISABLE (2) NEW PASSWORD (3) EXIT Press Enter key to toggle options: ENABLE DISABLE Set the Password The unit incorporates a password function for entry to the menu operation. This ensures that only authorized persons can change the unit s settings. Select PASSWORD setting as ENABLE and then select NEW PASSWORD on the PASSWORD SETTING menu. Press the Enter key to set the password. The following menu is displayed:???? ENTER PASSWORD Enter a Password of 4 digits.confirm the same password again. PASSWORD SETTING displayed if entered password is correct. After setting the password, the password is required to enter the main menu for programming. 21 6. Operation V5400 Operation Normal operating selections are made using the eight front panel keys, and functions are selected with a single key press. The V5400Mux may be controlled remotely by a user-provided dry contact control or by a host computer using a simple RS-232 command set. Basic Operation The basic operation includes selecting the sequence, follow, Time Lapse VCR, or quad modes and selecting individual camera channels for hold viewing. When the unit is in the operational mode (that is, not in the programming mode), six keys(menu,1,2,3,4,quad) perform the functions. The four keys labeled 1,2,3, and 4 select video channels 1 through 4 respectively, and the Quad key selects the quad display VCR Mode and Playback Mode The VCR key selects the input from the VCR to be displayed on the system monitor. You can view the recorded Time Lapse VCR images in full-screen for each Video channel or in a quad format If the monitor screen does not display a picture when the VCR key is pressed, check to make sure that the VCR is plugged in and turned on, that a recorded tape is inserted, and that the VCR is in the PLAY mode Alarm Mode Except Normal, PIP, ZOOM, Freeze menu status, screen will be turned to Normal Quad status and will be continued in sequence mode. PIP Display Mode When the PIP key is selected, the screen will be displayed as PIP status as programmed on the PIP MODE SETUP menu. The selected channel for the PIP display changes in order. REC View Mode At normal display mode, the screen will be turned to show recording status by pressing Title & VCR keys simultaneously. If releasing any one of them, the screen will be returned to normal mode. At returning to normal mode, it will be changed to quad screen and then continued to sequential mode. Record Time Zone Function Each camera channel can be recorded during for the required time only according to the programmed recording time period ( ZONE A / ZONE B / ZONE A,B / ALWAYS / SKIP ). Video Trigger Operation Mode Recording is made when a video trigger signal raised by a VEXT input signal of Time Lapse VCR operation mode. It shows better performance of capturing picture than the other operation without this signal and there is also less error rate. REC Out Trigger Operation Mode When an alarm occurs, this signals the VCR to record. Trigger connection mode on rear panel of V5400MUX Alarm In Alarm out = Term. Block Pin no. Signal Pin no. 22 Computer Remote Control V5400Mux uses a very simple command set, each command consisting of three characters. The first character in all cases is the slash or virgule(/). The unit looks only for a three-character command, with an initial slash. It ignores all other characters. If a mistake is made in entering a command, just type in another slash character followed by the appropriate character for the desired command. The commands are listed in the Table-RS-232 Commands.
