3 Overview This document describes in detail the Process of enrolling employee fingerprints in a 5000 series time clock, as well as providing best practice information. Quick Reference Guide Enroller Steps 1. Press Enroll from the bottom left corner of the screen 2. Enter 0000 for the password, and press Enter on the screen Employee Steps 1. Place your finger on the sensor and hold firmly 2. Enter your Badge ID using your other hand 3. Wait for the clock to complete the finger scan *Note* If you experience repeated difficulties enrolling, please contact us for enrollment assistance, or simply assign a PIN number to the employee and resubmit their record to the clock. PIN employees will not enroll; a PIN is used in lieu of fingerprint verification, and as such enrollment will not be necessary. Page 2 of 5

4 Complete Enrollment Step-By-Step First and foremost it is important to ensure that the finger is in good condition. Verify that the employees finger is not cut or damaged, and that the ridges and grooves of the finger are visible on the finger in which you intend to enroll them with. If their fingerprint is not readily visible, please review their other fingers for possible alternatives (if no fingers have visible fingerprints, the employee will likely require a PIN number) Press the Enroll button from the bottom left corner of the screen: Ensure the employees hands are not extremely cold or extremely hot, and that they are not unusually dry or wet. These factors may affect how successful they employee is with punching later on as conditions change. Have the employee Place their finger on the sensor, and enter their badge ID or slide their card through the card reader while holding their finger on the sensor. Enter the Enrollment Password (Default is 0000) and then press Enter on the screen (Follow recommendations on the Enrollment Tips Page) Page 3 of 5

5 If they removed their finger before enrollment was complete, have them then place their finger on the fingerprint sensor at this point. Wait briefly for enrollment. Enrollment Alternative (PIN) Occasionally Employees will be unable to enroll using any of their fingers; this may effect up to 10% of any given population (usually 1%~3%) and is often directly connected to the position the employee holds or has held, as well as age and physical build (individuals with misshapen or heavily worn fingertips). For these employees a PIN number may be required for them to be capable of punching in/out using the time clock. PIN numbers are 4 digit codes that an employee would need to memorize and use in conjunction with their existing badge ID. These will generally be assigned by facility administrators or HR management personnel and can be configured from the smartlinx software package from the employee s personal record in the payroll or timeclocks sections. 6 Enrollment Tips Every Smartlinx fingerprint device is loaded with powerful fingerprint algorithm which is capable of extracting quality features even from fingers with poor conditions. Nevertheless, correct placement of finger on enrollment helps consistency in fingerprint recognition. The following tips will guide how to enroll optimal fingerprint image from a user s finger which effectively improves recognition performance. Tips for Poor Fingerprint Conditions Wet Finger Wipe excessive moisture from finger before input. Dry Finger Use moisturizer or blow warm breath over enrolling finger before input. Stained Finger Wipe stains off from the finger before input. Recommendations When enrolling fingerprints, please keep enrollment guideline with extra care as it may affect recognition performance in later use. It is recommended to attempt enrollment with alternative fingers in the event that the first finger attempted with cannot be enrolled successfully or scores poorly. Page 5 of 5
