16 Projector Plcement 16 You cn plce the projector on lmost ny flt surfce to project n imge. Note the following points when selecting projector loction: Plce the projector on sturdy nd level surfce. Wrning Do not cover the projector's ir intke or ir exhust vents. If the vents re covered, the internl temperture could rise nd cuse fire. Do not instll the projector on n unstble surfce or in loction beyond the weight specifictions of the projector. Otherwise, it could fll or topple cusing n ccident nd injury. When instlling the projector in high position, tke mesures to prevent flling by using wires to ensure sfety in n emergency, such s n erthquke, nd to prevent ccidents. If it is not instlled correctly, it could fll cusing n ccident nd injury. Leve plenty of spce round nd under the projector for ventiltion, nd do not plce it on top of or next to nything tht could block the vents. Plce the projector prllel to the screen. Attention Do not operte the projector on its side. This my cuse the projector to mlfunction. If you re using the projector t ltitudes bove 1500 m, set the High Altitude Mode setting to On in the projector's Extended menu to ensure the projector's internl temperture is regulted properly. s Extended > Opertion > High Altitude Mode Try not to setup the projector in loctions subject to high humidity nd dust, or in loctions subject to smoke from fires or tobcco smoke. g Relted Links "Projector Setup Settings - Extended Menu" p.119 If you cnnot instll the projector prllel to the screen, correct keystone distortion using the projector controls.

17 Projector Connections 17 You cn connect the projector to vriety of computer, video, nd udio sources to disply presenttions, movies, or other imges, with or without sound. Attention Check the shpe nd orienttion of the connectors on ny cble you pln to connect. Do not force connector into port if it does not fit. The device or your projector could be dmged or could mlfunction. See the Quick Strt Guide for list of cbles supplied with your projector. Purchse optionl or commercilly vilble cbles when necessry. Connect computer tht hs USB port, stndrd video output (monitor) port, or HDMI port. For video projection, connect devices such s DVD plyers, gming consoles, digitl cmers, nd smrtphones with comptible video output ports. If your presenttion or video includes sound, you cn connect udio input cbles. You cn ply sound through the projector's speker system by connecting commercilly vilble 3.5 mm stereo mini-jck udio cble. b To connect computer tht does not hve VGA video port, you need n dpter tht llows you to connect to the projector's VGA video port. You cn lso set the port used for udio input from the projector's menu. s Extended > A/V Settings > Audio Output Mke sure the udio cble is lbeled "No resistnce". Connect the VGA computer cble to your computer's monitor port. Connect the other end to Computer port on the projector. Connecting to Computer Follow the instructions in these sections to connect computer to the projector.

18 Projector Connections 18 c d e Tighten the screws on the VGA connector. Connect the udio cble to your lptop's hedphone or udio-out jck, or your desktop's speker or udio-out port. Connect the other end to the projector's Audio 1 port. Connect the cble to your projector's USB-B port. Connecting to Computer for USB Video nd Audio If your computer meets the system requirements, you cn send video nd udio output to the projector through the computer's USB port. This function is clled USB Disply. Connect the projector to your computer using USB cble. If you use USB hub, the connection my not operte correctly. Connect the USB cble directly to the projector. b c d e Connect the other end to ny vilble USB port on your computer. Turn on the projector nd your computer. Do one of the following to instll the Epson USB Disply softwre: You only need to instll this softwre the first time you connect the projector to the computer. Windows: Select Run EMP_UDSE.EXE in the dilog box tht is displyed to instll the Epson USB Disply softwre. Mc: The Epson USB Disply setup folder is displyed on your screen. Select USB Disply Instller nd follow the on-screen instructions to instll the Epson USB Disply softwre. If the USB Disply Setup folder is not displyed utomticlly, double-click EPSON_PJ_UD > USB Disply Instller. Follow ny on-screen instructions. Do not disconnect the USB cble or turn off the projector until the projector displys n imge.

19 Projector Connections 19 The projector displys the imge from your computer's desktop nd outputs sound if your presenttion contins udio. b Connect the other end to the projector's HDMI port. If the projector does not project ny imges, do one of the following: Windows: Click All Progrms > EPSON Projector > Epson USB Disply > Epson USB Disply Ver.x.xx. Mc: Double-click the USB Disply icon in the Appliction folder. When you finish projection, do one of the following: Windows: Disconnect the USB cble. You do not need to operte Sfely Remove Hrdwre. Mc: Select Disconnect from the USB Disply icon menu on the menu br or Dock, nd then disconnect the USB cble. g Relted Links "USB Disply System Requirements" p.166 Connecting to Computer for HDMI Video nd Audio If your computer hs n HDMI port, you cn connect it to the projector using n HDMI cble nd send the computer's udio with the projected imge. To connect Mc tht does not hve n HDMI port, you need n dpter tht llows you to connect to the projector's HDMI port. Contct Apple for comptible dpter options. Older Mc computers (2009 nd erlier) my not support udio through the HDMI port. If you hve problems hering udio through the HDMI connection, connect one end of commercilly vilble 3.5 mm stereo mini-jck udio cble to the projector's Audio port nd the other end to your computer's udio out port. Select the udio input port you connected to in the projector's Extended menu. s Extended > A/V Settings > HDMI1 Audio Output s Extended > A/V Settings > HDMI2 Audio Output s Extended > A/V Settings > HDMI3 Audio Output Connect the HDMI cble to your computer's HDMI output port. g Relted Links "Projector Setup Settings - Extended Menu" p.119 Connecting to Smrtphones or Tblets You cn connect the projector to smrtphones nd tblets using MHL cble nd send the udio with the projected imge.

20 Projector Connections 20 You my not be ble to project correctly, depending on the model nd settings of the smrtphone or tblet. You my not be ble to connect n MHL cble to ll devices. Contct the mnufcturer of your smrtphone or tblet device to check if your device supports MHL. Chrging my not work when using lot of power, such s when plying movie. Chrging does not work when the projector is in stndby mode or the bttery in smrtphone or tblet is depleted. b Connect the MHL cble to your device's Micro-USB port. Connect the other end to the projector's HDMI1/MHL port. Attention If you connect n MHL cble tht does not support the MHL stndrds, the smrtphone or tblet device my become hot, or lekge or explosion my hppen. The connected smrtphone or tblet begins chrging when imges re projected. If you connect using MHL-HDMI conversion dpter, chrging the smrtphone or tblet device my not work or you my not be ble to perform opertions using the projector's remote control. If imges re not projected correctly, disconnect nd then reconnect the MHL cble. Connecting to Video Sources Follow the instructions in these sections to connect video devices to the projector. If the port on the device you connect hs n unusul shpe, use the cble supplied with the device or n optionl cble to connect to the projector. The cble differs depending on the output signl from the connected video devices. Some video devices re cpble of outputting different types of signls. See your video device mnul to confirm wht type of signls cn be output. 21 Projector Connections 21 Connecting to n HDMI Video Source If your video source hs n HDMI port, you cn connect it to the projector using n HDMI cble nd send the imge source's udio with the projected imge. Attention Do not turn on the video source before connecting it to the projector. Doing so could dmge the projector. b Connect the HDMI cble to your video source's HDMI output port. Connect the other end to the projector's HDMI port. g Relted Links "Projector Setup Settings - Extended Menu" p.119 Connecting to Component-to-VGA Video Source If your video source hs component video ports, you cn connect it to the projector using component-to-vga video cble. Depending on your component ports, you my need to use n dpter cble long with component video cble. You cn ply sound through the projector's speker system by connecting stereo mini-jck udio cble. You cn lso set the port used for udio input in the projector's Extended menu. s Extended > A/V Settings > Audio Output Mke sure the udio cble is lbeled "No resistnce". 25 Projector Connections 25 b Connect the externl monitor's cble to your projector's Monitor Out port. b c d Mke sure your computer or video source is connected to the projector with both udio nd video cbles s necessry. Locte the pproprite cble to connect your externl spekers, such s stereo mini-jck-to-pin-jck cble, or nother type of cble or dpter. Connect one end of the cble to your externl spekers s necessry. Connect the stereo mini-jck end of the cble to your projector's Audio Out port. Connecting to Externl Spekers To enhnce the sound from your presenttion, you cn connect the projector to externl self-powered spekers. You cn control the volume using the projector's remote control. To output udio from externl spekers, select Projector s the Audio Out Device setting in the projector's Settings menu. When n udio/video system is not connected to the projector, udio is output from the externl spekers even if Audio Out Device is set to AV System. s Settings > HDMI Link > Audio Out Device If you wnt to output udio from the externl spekers when the projector is turned off, select Alwys On s the A/V Output setting in the projector's Extended menu. s Extended > A/V Settings > A/V Output You cn lso connect the projector to n mplifier with spekers. 26 Instlling Btteries in the Remote Control 26 The remote control uses the two AA btteries tht cme with the projector. Attention Mke sure you red the Sfety Instructions before hndling the btteries. Remove the bttery cover s shown. c Wrning Check the positions of the (+) nd ( ) mrks inside the bttery holder to ensure the btteries re inserted the correct wy. If the btteries re not used correctly, they could explode or lek cusing fire, injury, or dmge to the product. Replce the bttery cover nd press it down until it clicks into plce. b Insert the btteries with the + nd ends fcing s shown.

27 Remote Control Opertion 27 The remote control lets you control the projector from lmost nywhere in the room. Mke sure tht you im the remote control t the projector's receivers within the distnce nd ngles listed here. Avoid using the remote control in conditions with bright fluorescent lights or in direct sunlight, or the projector my not respond to commnds. If you re not going to use the remote control for long time, remove the btteries.

29 Turning On the Projector 29 Turn on the computer or video equipment you wnt to use fter you turn on the projector. Connect the power cord to the projector's power inlet nd plug it into n electricl outlet. When Quick Strtup is enbled in the projector's Extended menu, the projector becomes redy for use in severl seconds the next time you press the power button. s Extended > Opertion > Quick Strtup b The projector's power indictor turns blue. This indictes tht the projector is receiving power, but is not yet turned on (it is in stndby mode). Press the power button on the control pnel or remote control to turn on the projector. The projector beeps nd the sttus indictor flshes blue s the projector wrms up. Once the projector is wrmed up, the sttus indictor stops flshing nd turns blue. Try the following if you do not see projected imge. Turn on the connected computer or video device. Chnge the screen output from the computer when using lptop computer. Insert DVD or other video medi, nd press ply (if necessry). Press the [Source Serch] button on the control pnel or remote control to detect the source. Press the button for the desired video source on the remote control. If the Home screen is displyed, select the source you wnt to project. Wrning Never look into the projector lens when the light source is on. This cn dmge your eyes nd is especilly dngerous for children. When turning on the projector t distnce using the remote control, mke sure there is no one looking into the lens. During projection, do not block the light from the projector with book or other objects. If the light from the projector is blocked, the re on which the light shines becomes hot which could cuse it to melt, burn, or strt fire. Also, the lens my get hot due to the reflected light which could cuse the projector to mlfunction. To stop projection, use the A/V Mute function, or turn off the projector.

30 Turning On the Projector 30 When the Direct Power On setting is set to On in the projector's Extended menu, the projector turns on s soon s you plug it in. 32 Turning Off the Projector 32 Turn off the projector fter use. Turn off this product when it is not in use to prolong the life of the projector. Light source life vries depending on the mode selected, environmentl conditions, nd usge. Brightness decreses over time. Automtic light source clibrtion strts periodiclly when you turn off the projector. However, this does not strt utomticlly in the following situtions: If you use the projector continuously for more thn 24 hours If you regulrly turn off the projector by shutting off the power outlet Since the projector supports the direct shutdown feture, it cn be turned off directly using the breker. Press the power button on the control pnel or remote control. The projector displys shutdown confirmtion screen. b c Press the power button gin. (To leve it on, press ny other button.) The projector beeps twice, the light source turns off, nd the sttus indictor turns off. To trnsport or store the projector, mke sure the power indictor is blue (but not flshing) nd the sttus indictor is off, then unplug the power cord.

33 Selecting the Lnguge for the Projector Menus 33 If you wnt to view the projector's menus nd messges in nother lnguge, you cn chnge the Lnguge setting. b Turn on the projector. The lrger the ngle of tilt, the hrder it becomes to focus. Locte the projector so tht it only needs to be tilted t smll ngle. b Turn on the projector nd disply n imge. To djust the imge height, rotte the front or rer feet to extend or retrct them. c If the imge is tilted, rotte the rer feet to djust their height. 47 Selecting n Imge Source 47 When multiple imge sources re connected to the projector, such s computer nd DVD plyer, you cn switch from one imge source to the other. b c Mke sure the connected imge source you wnt to use is turned on. For video imge sources, insert DVD or other video medi nd press ply. Do one of the following: Press the [Source Serch] button on the control pnel or remote control until you see the imge from the source you wnt. This screen is displyed when no imge signl is detected. Check the cble connections between the projector nd imge source. Press the button for the source you wnt on the remote control. Connect the projector to computer using the projector's USB-B, Computer, or HDMI port. The wireless mouse function does not work when projecting imges from device connected to the HDMI1/MHL port using n MHL cble. b c If you connected your computer to the port other thn the USB-B port, lso connect USB cble to the projector's USB-B port nd to USB port on your computer (for wireless mouse support). The projector you wnt to operte is selected. c Press the [ID] button to check if the ID-setting process worked. You see messge displyed by the projector. If the remote control is listed s On, you cn operte the projector from the remote control. If the remote control is listed s Off, you cnnot operte the projector from the remote control. Repet the steps bove to enble the remote control. When you select 0 on the remote control, you cn operte ll projectors regrdless the Projector ID setting. You must select the projector ID from the remote control ech time you turn on the projector you hve set it to control. A/V Mute Timer Stndby Mode ECO Disply On Off Stndby Mode Port On Off Automticlly turns off the projector fter 30 minutes if A/V Mute is enbled (when On). Avilble when you hve set A/V Output to While Projecting. Communiction On indictes tht the projector cn be monitored over network when the projector is in stndby mode. Enble this setting to llow the following opertions to occur when the projector is in stndby mode: Monitor nd control the projector over network Selects the port to use from Wired LAN or Wireless LAN while the Stndby Mode setting is set to Communiction On.
