4 Before operating the system, be sure to read and understand fully the operating instructions. This system produces hazardous voltages. It is the responsibility of the user to ensure that the system is operated in a safe manner. This equipment contains exposed terminals carrying hazardous voltages. There are no user serviceable components in the unit. All repairs and upgrades that require the unit to be opened must be referred to HAEFELY TEST AG or one of their nominated agents. Unauthorized opening of the unit may damage the EMC protection of the system and will reduce its resistance to interference and transients. It may also cause the individual unit to be no longer compliant with the relevant EMC emission and susceptibility requirements. If the unit has been opened, the calibration will be rendered invalid. In all correspondence, please quote the exact type number and serial number of the instrument and the version of software that is currently installed on it. The software version is reported in the About window. Note HAEFELY TEST AG has a policy of continuing improvement on all their products. The design of this instrument will be subject to review and modification over its life. There may be small discrepancies between the manual and the operation of the instrument, particularly where software has been upgraded in the field. 8 1 Introduction 1.1 Introduction The High Voltage Construction KIT is a system of components for applications in high voltage technology distribution transformer according IEC A complete test system requires a volume of 30 m3 and a floor surface of three by four meters. Numerous accessories are available for the basic KIT elements. The high voltage KIT has very compact dimensions and a wide range of application. It is portable and truly represents a complete high voltage test system. Measuring data are stored and can be transferred into an Excel sheet for final Reporting. 1.2 Operating System On all industrial PCs of the system there is Windows 7 professional (English) installed as operating system. The KIT Measurement Software was designed and tested with this operating system. Do NOT change the Windows operating system, its language or settings which could cause malfunctions of the KIT application software. Do NOT install other unnecessary programs. Do NOT install other programs that could use any PC ports. 2 Introduction
9 2 Operating Instructions 2.1 Getting Started This chapter describes how to launch and control KIT Measurement Software To start, power the device (PicoScope 3404 D) with AC power adaptor and connect USB cable between the oscilloscope and your PC (see Figure 1 below). When possible, choose USB 3.0 port. Once you have connected a USB cable, Windows System should automatically start device installation; there are different alerts depending on your operating system. Read instruction on software installation in section PicoScope oscilloscope software installation Minimum requirements for PicoScope 3404 D Operating system: Windows XP (SP3), Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 (not Windows RT). 32 bit and 64 bit versions. Port USB 3.0 (USB 2.0 not recommended) PicoScope Oscilloscope software installation Before you launch KIT Measurement Software it is essential to install original software - PicoScope Oscilloscope Software from oscilloscope developer (Pico Technology Limited). The company provides software and upgrades free of charge, available from their website: 1 PicoScope 3000 Series; A, B and D MSO model oscilloscopes; User s Guide Operating Instructions 3
10 For the next step run PicoScope Oscilloscope Software and check if it recognizes your device and collects data. When your device is not automatically recognized follow website instructions or turn to the Customer Support provided by Pico Technology Limited. When the device was successfully detected, turn off PicoScope Oscilloscope Software. You can now install KIT Measurement Software KIT Measurement Software installation To start software installation run install.exe file and follow the instructions Operating Instructions
11 Launching KIT Measurement Software (LabVIEW application) To launch the software, click on the KIT_LAB_MEAS.exe window appears as shown below. icon on the desktop, and the main Operating Instructions 5
12 The software main window is divided into five sections: Acquisition Settings Trigger Settings Measurement window With four channel tabs Data Log Program Control When the application is started, you can choose its language in Program Control Section by selecting desired field from Language dropdown box. 2.2 Measurement Preparation To acquire measurement it is necessary to implement proper values in Acquisition Settings Section and Trigger Settings Section. In this chapter you will find a description of all elements (buttons, displays, etc.) in the program interface Acquisition Settings Section 6 Operating Instructions
13 pre Trigger Samples Defines number of samples before Trigger occurs. If Trigger is disabled this value is ignored post Trigger Samples Defines number of samples after Trigger occurs. If Trigger is disabled this value defines number of samples to be collected Timebase Defines Time interval[s] and Time[s]. Set Timebase by applying value in Time interval [s] or adjusting a slider in accordance with Min and Max fields. The current value is always shown in a Time interval [s] field. Time [s], presented below defines time in a measurement window: Time [s] = (pretriggersamples + posttriggersamples) * Time interval Press Auto Range to automatically set 5 signal cycles with 50 Hz as a default frequency and select OK. 14 Resulting Measuring Time [s] and Resulting Sampling Rate [MS/s] Down-Sample Mode Down Sample Ratio Four Channels Shows current value of Measuring Time [s] and Sampling rate [s] Down-Sample method choice. The following modes are available from dropdown box [2]: None: Down Sample Ratio is ignored Aggregate: Reduces every block of n values to just two values: a minimum and a maximum. The minimum and maximum values are returned in two separate buffers. Decimate: Reduces every block of n values to just the first value in the block, discarding all the other values. Average: Reduces every block of n values to a single value representing the average (arithmetic mean) of all the values The downsampling factor applied to the raw data. Num. of samples in chart = (pretriggersamples + posttriggersamples) / Down Sample Ratio Downsampling is done inside measuring device. Here you can activate or deactivate four channels acquisition. When button is on Channels C and D are active. When button is off Channels C and D are inactive. This button is off by default. 2 PicoScope 3000 Series (A API); PC Oscilloscopes and MSOs; Programmer s Guide Oscilloscope can sample at a number of different rates depending on the selected timebase and the number of active channels (see Table below 2 ). 15 2.2.2 Trigger Settings Section As long as Trigger Settings is checked, all trigger settings can be modified. It is deactivated by default. Trigger Settings Trigger Source Auto Trigger Time [ms] Trigger Threshold Trigger Direction Trigger Delay Enables Trigger Settings Section. When off, all trigger settings are disabled. Defines Trigger Source, offers selection from `Channel A.. D` and `ext.` which is used to set trigger level for trigger in an external device [2]. Defines time in [ms], the device will wait if no trigger occurs. If set to zero, the device will wait indefinitely for a trigger. Defines Amplitude value (Y scale in chart) in ADC counts at which the trigger will fire. Set here any value within current channel range. The direction of the signal required for the pulse width trigger to fire. The direction in which the signal move to cause a trigger. Direction can be set to: none no digital triggering falling trigger on negative slope rising trigger on positive slope Trigger Delay represents the time between the trigger occurring and the first sample e.g. if delay equals 200 then the scope would wait 200 sample periods before sampling [2]. 16 2.3 Measurements Acquisition Section Measurement window consists of four tabs. Each tab represents data for one input channel ( Channel A, Channel B, Channel C and Channel D ) in oscilloscope. Channel C and Channel D are disabled by default. To activate press Four Channels in Acquisition Settings section. 10 Operating Instructions
17 Each tab has following elements: Chart Coupling Auto Range, Range DC Offset, Divider Ratio, Unit Signals measurement (AC Signal, DC Signal and Impulse Signal) All Elements in Channel Settings are described below. Settings Enables data acquisition for selected channel. It is checked by default. If you want to disable, make sure that Trigger Source is not set to the channel you want to disable. Otherwise you will get message: Coupling Sets up the input circuitry of the oscilloscope. Coupling can be either DC or AC [2] Auto Range AC: The channel accepts input frequencies from about 1 hertz up to its maximum 3 db analog bandwidth. DC: The scope accepts all input frequencies from zero (DC) up to its maximum 3 db analog bandwidth. Provide Auto Range for signal amplitude and fits the scope. Range Voltage range selection, choose proper vale from dropdown box: There are 10 different values between 20mV and 20V defined in hardware When Auto Range is on, this option is disabled DC Offset Divider Ratio Chart Unit AC Signal DC Signal Impulse Signal Voltage added to the channel currently in use When Unit is set to: V Divider Ration represents division ratio of capacitive parts in KIT System A Divider Ratio represents resistance in KIT System Read section Chart Window Defines signal unit (V or A). 18 2.3.1 Chart Window In this chart you can see measured signal. X Scale, defined by samples, represents time. Y Scale is defined as Amplitude [V] of the current signal. To enlarge the scope click on the chart and an additional window will pop up. Move yellow cursor and read corresponding value. Following items are measured: Use Graph Palette to read value from cursor or zoom measured signal. Press Left/Right/Up/Down to Step Current Cursor Current Values of Cursors A and B Current Divider Ratio Values from Cursor A and B multiplied by Current Value of Divider Ratio Amplitude A - B Time A-B [s] Absolute distance between two cursors on Y Scale Absolute distance between two cursors on X Scale When finished Close Zoom Window and return to the Main View. 12 Operating Instructions

20 2.3.2 AC Signal Section Following items are measured: Distortion Factor Distortion factor of a current signal. Distortion factor = (1.11*U RectifiedMead-U RMS)/(1.11*U RectifiedMean)) Mean Max Max/sqrt(2) Mean value of a signal in chart given in [unit], for accuracy it is recommended to press Mean in Acquisition Settings Section and read mean from five periods Maximum value of a signal in chart given in [unit] Maximum value in chart divided by sqrt(2) in [unit] 14 Operating Instructions
21 THD Total Harmonic Distortion. The Value is calculated using Distortion Measurements Express VI from LabVIEW Library: The measurement includes only the frequencies that are lower than Nyquist frequency. There are 25 harmonics included for analysis. 24 2.4 Data logging Section With KIT Measurement Software It is possible to save measured data to a.csv or.txt file. First you need to define which channel data you want to save by selecting coressponding checkbox near each channel name. All channels are disabled by default. For the second step define signal type you want to measure choose AC for AC Signal, DC for DC Signal and IMP for Impulse Signal. 18 Operating Instructions
25 You can define here the data path. New files will automatically be created. If no path is selected the data will automatically be saved under: C:\...\Documents\KIT\MeasurementSoftware Click on icon to browse through files. Click to create new file, remember to specify data type (.txt or.csv) In addition you can also describe your measurement with unique header and comment. Press this button to save the current data from the selected channels. 26 If you forget to select channel before saving data proper window will pop up. 2.5 Program Control Section Select here program language from dropdown box. Currently available languages are: English, German and Polish Opens Manual If the diode is blinking during run mode PicoScope does not work properly. Close LabVIEW program and open it once again. Reset program Stop measurement. Start measurement. 20 Operating Instructions
27 3 Directories and Files There are two main-directories which are required by the KIT Measuremt Software. 1. Program Directory 2. Data Directory To exclude any access violations it is required that the locations of these directories remain unchanged. There should be no conflicts of the software if the user wishes to create sub-directory below the mentioned directory structure. 3.1 Program Directory C:\Program Files\HTAG\KIT\ Except the files under sub-directory Language, all other files could not be modified by user. There are two sub-directories: \HTAG\KIT\Measurement Software\ Language Manuals data This directory contains following files: KIT_LAB_MEAS.exe data Languages Manuals KIT_LAB_MEAS.ini KIT_LAB_MEAS.aliases Executable file of KIT Measurement Software folder Common language folder Folder with the Program Manual Contains initial settings LabVIEW file Sub-Directory Language Program Directory\Language\ This Sub-directory is used to store language file: KIT_MS_Language.csv KIT_MS_Errors.csv Common language file Common error description file Directories and Files 21
28 KIT_MS_LanguageEnumDialogs.csv Common language file 3.2 Data Directory The default folder with data is: C:\...\Documents\HTAG\KIT\MeasurementSoftware It is also possible to specify customer data directory by selecting specified data path (read 2.5 Data Logging Section). C:\...\Documents\KIT\ControlSoftware Data Config Sub-Directory Data In this folder you can find all user defined settings. If data path has not been defined in Customer Setup all data are automatically saved under: C:\...\Documents\KIT\MeasurementSoftware\Data.csv Sub-Directory Config Data Directory\Config\ Folder contains configuration files.
