3 IDC Remote monitoring of offices Remote monitoring provides a cost-effective and simple way of keeping an eye on sensitive areas over the local network or the Internet. It is achieved by hooking up network cameras to the existing IP-network so that real-time video is accessible from any of the network s computers. The video server is specially designed to capture, digitize and transmit video images over LAN to a Web server. Birdcam generates some of the heaviest traffic on Kodak s Web site. The AXIS 2400 Video Server gave us just what we needed with four high speed video inputs and an Ethernet output for digitized images. It was very easy to generate the FTP scripts that direct the cameras to capture snapshots once per minute and send them to the Kodak.com server.
